Re: Electronic help-thanks. Vader belt boxes-almost done. mini vader costume progress

Helmet- Check! I am done. Other than some possible padding additions to fit just right. Test fit tomorrow with full costume. I think I am done and to the point of what I wanted to accomplish.

a few shots of the helmet tonight on our paper towel holder:

I don't know if I'm Happy or Sad this ride is over. I think my wife is glad I may come to be before 2am now... and/or maybe she'll see me after the kids go to bed :lol

I can't wait to get some good pics of the boys in gear together.

Looks fantastic.

Your boy will be the envy of every young lad out there now.

Well done. :thumbsup

Re: Electronic help-thanks. Vader belt boxes-almost done. mini vader costume progress

Thank you!

I tell ya... 3 months ago, I was "the learner"....and while I'm certainly not the master now- I had no idea about the details, costume parts, etc that all went into Vader. I just never thought I'd do a Vader costume as I hardly have the height for a trooper. Done many a Jedi and imperial costumes in the past- but this was by far the funnest project to date. Maybe because it was for my kid- but Even Jacks trooper armor kit... no sweat in tearing into that as I already knew what I was doing and wasn't excited everyday when I got home to try something new. This took research, creative thinking that almost killed me when I though about the helmet- and lots of patients.

but, I think the helmet really turned out well above my expectations- and I'm now going to be on the hunt for a Kid sized maniquin... I just don't think I could let this one go- even when he outgrows it.

After re-reading my posts- I can’t believe what’s transpired in the past few months. Thank you all for help, suggestions, tips, compliments- support, etc.

Nick was Excited here:

I think Dad really got more excited about here:

And then finally reaching this point- I was extatic:

From stating here- and then scrapping this:

To the finished product of this:

It’s sure been the journey I’ll remember.

Re: Mini Darth Vader costume progress- Helmet Completed: last page pics

Thanks. Last night my wife went out with some friends and the boys and I went out with some buddies of mine too. Celebratory finish of the costumes/pre con planning dinner with some local prop builders, Browncoats, etc.

We did some shown n tell after we ate- and the helmet was quite the hit. Though..Bobs new chess board is pretty freaking sweet and I wish I had my camera.

I'm hoping the weather holds this morning and doesn't rain. I want to get a few photos of the boys in gear- just to make sure we are set and don't need any last minute changes.

Working on another mini saber for Jacks Jedi/padawan costume too. All primed, now I need to paint and and the greeblies. Repainting Nick Solo "room alarm" blaster too.... starting becoming orange again after the few years of wear n tear.

That is so cool! Wish my parents would've done that for me xD

Re: Mini Darth Vader costume progress- Helmet Completed: last page pics

Yeah, the new helmet is 234143523 times better! Do I see Jango and Boba costumes in the future for these boys? I hope so!

Re: Mini Darth Vader costume progress- Helmet Completed: last page pics

This is awesome. I'm sure your son will have great memories of both this and you as a Dad when he's older. Not that my Dad didn't love me, but what I'd have given to have had this kind of SW interaction with my Dad when I was your son's age. Your son is blessed. :)

Unbelievable! That scale helmet is the bomb - it certainly is the perfect final piece to an awesome costume build! Nick is going to be a HUGE hit at the Con!

Charge the cameras - I can't wait to see some Con photos! :)

Jango and Boba would be awesome! I think I need to win the powerball though.

Re: Mini Darth Vader costume progress- Helmet Completed: last page pics

Thanks again for all the compliments! We did some final test fitting today with the boys and got a few shots with a better camera outside. One minor add of velcro to the ab section and belt of Jacks trooper was all that was needed. Everything else is golden!. That belt just kept wanting to fall down.

Here are some pics-

Jack thinks Bunny ears are hilarious... especially since he just got a shirt at Target that has Vaders head shot, with trooper armor behind it givig Vader bunny ears.

I may have missed it but did you build the child size trooper armor as well or did you acquire that? I've been looking for a set for my 5 year old and that looks amazing. Outstanding work brother, you're a good dad.

Re: Mini Darth Vader costume progress- Helmet Completed: last page pics

Wow, just finished reading through all of the posts, what a mammoth effort, and the result is simply outstanding. If only my dad was that clever. I used to think my superman and batman suits sewn by my grandma were great, this is another level entirely.

Well done those suits are exceptional.

Re: Mini Darth Vader costume progress- Helmet Completed: last page pics

thanks everyone.

Trent.. I had a separate thread going a while back on the trooper. That was actually a slightly smaller scale Kit I purchased on Ebay. Resembles an ol FX kit. Some parts had to be trimmed down quite a bit- but at least it started off smaller in scale. I think it stated from 4ft something to 5.5ft.

I can't for the life of me remember the ebay sellers name, but do have his email address if interested. It was from the UK. the seller had more around the time I got it (just before Christmas).. but the auctions really ranged in price. Most around the $300 range I think. I lucked out.. mine ended at $25.. however shipping was $99... but well worth it in my opin.

Re: Mini Darth Vader costume completed: last page pics

Wow! Nicely done!

Vader's helmet turned out great! Great scale.

Re: Mini Darth Vader costume completed: last page pics

This turned out stellar. Bravo Dad. Your son will be the hit of Halloween as well as any cons or trooping you may do. IMO this mini vader suit rivals some of the full size stuff out there... and as far as I am concerned it completely dominates the Rubies suit.
