MiB3 licensee at Comic Con!

What bothers me the most about these alien guns (and movie aliens in general) is that everything is humanoid. The guns looks like pistols and shotguns that were stretched like taffy. When are we going to encounter an alien species that produces objects that humans cannot even begin to understand (let alone hold properly)??

We could start with the simple truth that the weapons and gadgets in the first movie looked unique both because of their intended design but also the budgetary restrictions they faced in fabrication. There is an interesting charm to them because of that. These look generic to me. I actually feel as if there is NOTHING that "screams" MiB in them. They look like they could have come out of any sci-fi action flick from the past ten years.

I am going to use your style of argument and say, "I just don't see how you can look at these and SEE the MiB connection".

I am not just here to hate, I am here as a fan of the franchise who believes that if it only gets worse than MIIB, then they should have stopped at the first.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion bit I totally disagree. All I will agree
On is that the originals were indeed very cool in a Star Wars / limited budget way. However, I disagree that these are generic and the closest thing I can think of are Jango's and Padme's pistols, but even those lack the style these have. Where you see bland, I see very sleek and stylish which screams MiB to me.

SAT was nice enough to sit down for an interview with us as well as allowing us to take tons of pics. Maybe those will change your mind as each gun really is packed with detail.

Glad to show them to you- they are indeed all screen used

I didn't know you were a member here! Here's a pic of your hands!

I immediately thought MIB when I saw them.

Hi all. I worked for 2 weeks as an actor in the film. Remember when looking at some of these props, the movie goes back to 1969, so possible the props were designed for that period.

It's even worse if that's the case because they look more sleek than the originals. Makes no sense to go from scrappy J2 to polished, sleek predecessor. Just sayan.

That's the same thing I've always been confused by with the SW Prequels, an apparent decrease in technology from then to the Original Trilogy. Even though I still liked the look of allot of the Prequel Props, I expected them to look less or at least similarly advanced considering they were meant to exist long before anything in the Original Trilogy.

As for MIB3, if what we're seeing are the Props from the 50's portion of the film, naturally I would expect them to look less advanced as well.

I wonder if we can get some classic MIB props released as well. Been wanting a new Neuralizer for a while and really love the MIB II version...
That being said, I like the design of the new props and happy that they are being made by the same people who made them for the movie. It's a collectors dream come true and I wish more companies would fallow this lead...

I think somebody installed a trigger backwards on that gun with the handguard.

I like the new guns though. For me, it's a series of comedies about goofy alien hijinks. I don't think taking the designs so seriously is needed.

But, if you look at automotive design, look at the cars from the 60's. There is a more artistic aesthetic to them. They are sleeker and more interesting than many of the automotive designs happening now days.

As an automotive designer I can tell you that observation might be as opposite as you can get.

Honestly the guns look great and what I'm hearing here are just opinions and maybe a feeling of nostalgia for MIB1 and MIB2? I think the new designs are far more advanced looking, detailed, and fluid. I felt (except for some of the background weapons) that a lot of the MIB 1 and 2 guns looked like they were made by a human, out of aluminum, on a CNC mill. :lol

That was part of the design. Maybe we can show you guys some of the concept artwork as we move further along with the license...

There was another shotgun design that we had which didn't end up getting produced-it also had the double trigger.

Ohh, if FE can knock out a metal J2, I'd be SOOO happy. Their James Bond Golden Gun is pretty awesome. (y)thumbsup

But their QC isn't the best, so I'm hoping they can tighten that up before releasing the MIB props... I don't want to deal with any flaws in these pieces. :cry

if they do work on a J2, it would be gran if it had lights and the trigger is working. A static metal J2 would be a let down i think.

After seeing that noisy cricket prop it is easy to see just how good Nicksdad's UA cricket replica is. And I so want that "flashy flashy thing" - Neuralyzer. SD it's time to make some more.

Awesome to see you guys moving into licensed replicas!

And sweet weapons! I dig the sleekness. I'd love to see some of that concept art in the future too.

Hi guys. Although Studio Art & Technology has been around for more than 30 years, we are not very publicly known outside of the studio industry.

We originally started in 1977 as the manufacturing department for Independent Studio Services (ISS). Approximately 22 years ago, we became Studio Art & Technology (SAT). Over the years, we’ve worked on most mainstream features and television shows. Some of the more recent titles and projects include the following:

Iron Man 1,2 – RT devices
Green Lantern – Lanterns and Rings
Transformers 1,2, 3 – Cubes, shards, pillars, etc.
Cowboys and Aliens – Gauntlets
Avengers – Weaponry (vague….I know)
Pirates 1,2,3,4 – Swords, Chests, etc.
Green Hornet
Batman Begins, DK, DKR
Thor
Serenity
Spiderman 1,2,3,4
Super 8
Real Steel
There are too many to list but at any given time, we are fortunate enough to be working on 10 to 20 + features plus television shows.
We’re very excited about wrapping up MIB3 and now being the licensee to produce MIB3 Replica Props. We’ll have much more of a presence on the RPF and try to keep you guys up-to-date on the progress of the projects. Thanks very much for having us here.

Thanks very much for having us here.

Keep up the good work on all your movie props, and I hope you have the chance to acquire more licenses and make us a few awesome replicas. I'm definitely willing to spend the funds to pick up prop replicas made by the guys who created the actual filming props. :thumbsup

Great pictures of the MIB Props! I didn't realize the Original Neuralyzer's had that sharp angled side clip, I always thought they were rounded? Guess we learn something new everyday!

Thanks for the kind words. We pride ourselves in making props that hold up to close inspection not just camera. I'll create a proper introduction thread shortly. I was unable to create a thread with my account until moments ago.

Thanks again. Happy to be here.
