Metal Movie Cap Shield on a budget **DONE!! FINAL PICS ON PAGE 4

In the movie it almost seems like it's magnetically held on. So maybe some strong-ish magnets?

I'd like to keep it low budget. I'll play around with the straps when I start my build. I was thinking adjusting the arm straps in a way like you would tighten backpack straps. But with buckles I guess since they'll be leather.

Sorry if this question has already been answered but about how much does the final shield weigh?

Hi Valor, I managed to get a shield spun here in the UK very happy with it overall, just want to bug you with another question how thick is the aluminum you use for your stars, I'm going to try make my own, just wondering as I have some ally lying around in the garage,

Thanks

Clark

First off, I really love the work coming off of this thread, it's helped plan out this whole project immensely, but I have one question- maybe it's been asked and I'm just blind- but do you clear coat the back before or after mounting the brackets?

Valor, thanks so much. I'm new here and this has given me a bug to make one. You're a legend!

Not sure what Valor used, but to strip mine I used a spray called Tal-Strip by Mar-Hyde. Within about 5 minutes, the paint was bubbled up and I simply wiped it off.

As for cutting the edge off, I used a fine-tooth metal blade in my jigsaw. I scribed a line around the sled with my metal caliper. Make sure to wear ear protection when cutting. :)

Here's a pic of mine after having Mr. Stan Lee sign it in STL last weekend.

That's awesome. I was wondering whether Stan signed non official / homemade stuff or not. I think I might attempt the star first and try get Stan Lee to sign it at the upcoming Supa Nova con in Sydney then I can set to making the shield at a later date. Then I can decide whether to attach it or make a display / statue base from it.

Awesome thread.

Hello, I just bought some aluminum for the star but when I came home I realized it was galvanized does that matter. If not did you (valor) get rid of the coting by using the paint striper pad? If so where can I get non-galvanized aluminum for the star?

Not sure how galvanized will work. I get plain aluminum at most hardware stores.

Quick question whats used on the straps to hold the folded leather pieces? Are they leather rivets?

Thanks again

How long did you leave the citristrip on to remove the paint? The instructions say to check it after 30 minutes. But when I did that it had absolutely nothing to the paint.

I'm late to the party, but Valor, that shield is amazing. You did some fantastic work and should be damn proud of yourself.

I would just like to say that the shield is awersome , i made an account just to say this ! Also can anyone tell me if someone sells this kind o shields allready made ? I would love to try to build one but having only 1 hand due to a car accident some years back i can't make one as good as this .

My fiance finished his using this thread the week before last for Anime Central. It turned out really awesome thank you 8D
