Metal Movie Cap Shield on a budget **DONE!! FINAL PICS ON PAGE 4

And Super Glue wouldn't work? Unless for whatever reason it doesn't adhere to the metal that well. Another bonus is that it's cheap! So if it does fall off you can just buy some new super glue and glue it back on.

Also I found the steel saucer in stock on ebay for $10

Valor I just want to say thanks for posting this it's been a lot of help with building my shield which is also my first build. But I'm wondering if you have a template for the brackets in the back?

You can find them on page 2 of this thread. He posted them there :)

As valor said, it's plastic but also the handles are cut into the disc. I doubt you could cut them away and still end up when the shield shape you want

Drat, If I knew it was plastic, then I wouldn't have posted it, my bad! I knew it was too good to be true, anyway I will keep an eye out for a steel one on sale and when I find one I will post it here for you guys.

Also do you guys think there would be anyway of engraving the star and lines into the shield with some tools that they used for art (a "burin") If possible this would make the shields look a lot more authentic, and if the disc is thin, then it might be able to work.

Could also use the german version of a Drumel.

The Proxxon IB/E No 38 481 with a 3/32" round hardened steel collet on speed 6.

The how to:
Print a star
Center the paper star on the shield.
Mask the exterior edge, remove the star and mask the interior.
Layer the tape to build up a guide.
Use an exacto knife to trim for perfect points.
Cut the groves with the Proxxon/Drumel.
Remove the masking. Marvel that it worked.
Mask the inside lines from the interior points to the center hole.
Cut the next set of groves and clean up the built up steel around the hole.
Remove the mask.

If you live within a few hours of New Jersey, this place has 250 sleds in stock and is selling them for only $26.50 each: Paricon, Inc.: Red 26" Steel Saucer, 826

I made the drive and picked up four there. They can ship them, but they want $100 per sled for shipping because of the size (I told them amazon ships them for free, but they didn't care), so it's only reasonable to buy from there if you can pick them up in person.

I contacted the sled's manufacturer, Paricon, a few months ago. They said that the sled is a seasonal product and since it was such a snowy winter in much of the US, they ran out. They will begin production again in August. Until then, we have to scrounge around to find what we can.

Very, very cool! I have definitely been inspired to give this a shot! I have two questions for the braintrust that's been watching this thread:

- Do you have any paint suggestions for the light blue rings on Cap's stealth shield featured at the start of Captain America: The Winter Soldier?
- I hesitate to ask (as I expect it would be quite a bit of work) but Valor, would you ever consider condensing the information in this thread into an instructable or something kind of more linear step-by-step guide? All the info here is great but jumping into a project like this would be that much easier (especially for hobby newcomers like myself) if the necessary supplies and documentation were all laid out step-by-step.

Food for thought! Thanks again for the fantastic info and inspiration! What a great piece of work!

Like most people this thread has inspired me to make my own shield and I just have to quick things:

1: Valor, how did you cut the aluminium brackets for the back? because the precision is crazy good on those.
2: if you go to this site: RED 26" STEEL SAUCER by Paricon Inc - 826 - More Snow sleds at doitbest.com and use the promo code (mothersday14) you can get about $5.62 knocked of the price. Not sure how long it will last. Its not much, but every dollar counts.

too bad you can only get that shipped to the store and not another address.

The paint on the winter soldier shield makes me think of the same blue for the middle and then using the same blue on the stripes but maybe sanding it back to reveal more of the metal underneath.

Maybe I just can't computer very good but when I tried to use that promo code it limited my ship-to-store options to a couple locations in OR. Might be I missed something though...

OMG this thread is awesome thank you Valor for the walk-thru and everyone else for the extra tips! My fiance and I going to attempt making this for out Cap/Winter Soldier cosplays and this was very helpful I'm so excited everyone's shields look amazing!

I cut the brackets out of an aluminum sign blank with a jigsaw with e fine-tooth metal cutting blade. Like butter.
