MEN IN BLACK TRI-BARREL - DONE WITH PICS!!!!!

Lost cause? It's unique and looks excellent.
Sorry, I should have clarified. Due to the poor printing, there were multiple issues with parts not correctly fitting together. While I was able to salvage most of it, the top in particular has a slight gap, and since there’s no screws in the upper section, there really isn’t anyway to get it to stay closed. Not a huge deal, but it’s enough to bother me. I’ll probably end up selling this one and making a second.

I am very happy with the paint I used though. I’ll post a video tonight showing the gun in it’s entirety.

HHhhmmmm? aaaaaaaand?
...and they have been sitting on my floor for over a year..... Whoever printed the parts did so at a low resolution. The print job on the shells were very rough and took alot of work to get smoothed out. I helped Rusty with getting the shells smooth but the rest of the parts were not much better. Rusty is sending me the gun to fix it. I may have some silicone around and i now have a lathe so we'll see where it goes.....

That’s sad... cause I designed the 3d files for Rusty years back before I handling his tribarrel prototype... I might re do the whole deatomizer thing again but see how rusty and I organize the new kickstart and pull out the files from back up hard disk.

With the exception of the resin parts (and even a couple of those weren't great), the gun itself was in horrible condition. And worse than that, I had paid to have it sanded. But live and learn I guess. Skylu3d designed the 3D files but didn't do the printing. Since he has finished and assembled the Tri-Barrel without any issues (which he also designed) I can only assume it was the horrible prints that were the problem.

Hey Rusty85, I just remembered some advice from a vacuum metalizing company that I'd used. They recommend that you finish your parts with a primer/sealer (if you haven't already). They said it makes a difference in the quality of the final finish. The sealer helps keep any oils or whatever from being drawn out when under vacuum better than regular primer.
The parts they did for me came out great. The company was Mueller Corp. Vacuum Metalizing & Spray Coating Services | EMI Shielding
They weren't cheap, but they were very professional.

Thanks for the tip! I don't know what I'm doing at this point for the guns. I was thinking of just plating the Tri-Barrel with actual metal, but since it's so freaking expensive I may have to wait. I believe Mueller quoted about 700 for it. Hell of a nice guy that answered my emails. I was quite happy with the finish on the Deatomizer. It looks shiny enough it blends in with my other guns fairly well.

Here's a teaser image! We've got metal, woohoo! This is actual metal plating, I believe the bottom layers are copper and nickel under the top coat. I don't plan on posting any other photos until the entire gun is assembled, but to say I'm ecstatic is putting it lightly. Wanted a replica of this gun since I saw the first movie! The majority of the big parts have all been done in metal. I plan to paint most of all the other smaller parts, or print them in Rhodium-plated brass.

Been slowly painting all of the extra little parts. I'm doing satin black for the majority of the knobs, pump grip, and handle. For the little bubbles on the left side I'm doing gloss black. Also getting the little circle piece near the dials plated in gold. Also had the alien and dome designed and those are being printed as well, the alien printed in a painted 3D color file, and the dome in translucent polished resin. Was thinking about doing a Youtube video when the whole thing is done to say a few words about it. If there's any interest in that let me know and I'll think on it.

Good to know, will try and put something together! Here are the bullets, I finished them up earlier today. I used Modern Metals for the gold and silver. I had seen them recommended by someone doing a Rocketeer jetpack and have used them for little things here and there. They're not super reflective but they handle amazingly and the clearcoat doesn't turn them into some hideous gray. For the tips I used Krylon Fusion Metallics Copper. The bullets aren't all that shiny in the reference photos I've seen, and I think some parts that aren't super shiny will be a nice contrast to the actual metal parts. Speaking of which, the plated parts are supposed to arrive Friday. I'm anxious to see how they fit!
