Just googled 'wet moulding', sorry. Can you advise how u made the stand up collar and what did you make it out of before you wet moulded the leather onto it please? Thx.
This is beyond EPIC!!! Love it with a passion!!!! Also I was just curious but what is the black bodysuit made from? I would assume spandex but it just looks so smooth and thick, almost like leather or rubber.
I've never worked with thick leather like that but will the shape of the wet molded leather be lost if it gets wet or is there a means to prevent that from happening like some sort of sealer?
I have mad respect or those talented folks in this forum that create these sewing master pieces. I can hardly thread the machine, let alone make something this spectacular. I am simply in awe. :confused
The bodysuit is made out of three fabrics. The base is a matte finish four way stretch vinyl. It tends to change color from dark grey to black depending on lighting. The main part of the lightning bolt design is a four way stretch neoprene. The border around the lightning bolt design is a holographic spandex.
The leather was indeed wetmolded. It wasn't not shaped over a buck or anything, just shaped by hand. First, I worked on getting the spikey parts right, then (while still damp) I pinned it to my mannequin's shoulders. After that, it was mostly alternating my hands with a blowdryer and holding the leather upright to get the lift I wanted. The leather was baked afterward so it is fairly stiff. It was dyed black and sealed with Eco-Flo products from Tandy.
Here are some work in progress pictures to help explain...
Flat piece...
Still a bit damp...
Totally dry, pictured with lower part of collar...
