Marvel Thing 2015 build

Logan the flexibility is pretty good and the stones actually float on the material above the couch foam which ensures they will not tear off. That being said i have yet to be able to wear this get up for more than 45 minutes before heat stroke, so i need to work that out at some point..lol

This should win an award for one of the best tutorials going! I am a little worried about you getting in/out of the legs and amount of stretching/flex the legs will allow without losing/having foam start to pull off in spots.

Have you looked into cooling vests? They're expensive, but heatstroke is no fun at all (as I know from experience!).

The cool vest is a Must have. I got mine for $175.00 it is worth every penny. The vest keeps my core around 70 degees for several hours. I suggest that you look for a vest that uses Phase Change Cooling Packs. You wont be sorry. I ive in South Florida and have a flex design muscle suit for my skelator costume. I almost passed out from heat at Megacon last year..

Yeah it seems to be the reasonable way to go. I just have to work out how to incorporate it into the torso. I will be wearing this costume at mega-con next year myself. Debuting at NYC Comic Con first though.

Hapslappy I am right there with you man. I have 2 pc fans installed, a neck fan, and am still looking for things to add to the suit that will keep me from passing out! It seems to me the best solution for these suits will be phase change cooling vests. they are the most effecient cooling method. Anyone have suggestions on the best vest?

(Static).....garbled radio communications.......Hello.....Hello.....I'm looking for Hapslappy (more static).....do you copy over......Hapslappy you there??????? That's it I'm calling Johnny Storm to go get em.....(end of radio coms)...........

Hey Guys,
Sorry for the long absence. Real life gets in the way sometimes. I will be refocusing my efforts in July. We are going to have a table at the NYC Comic Con and i have been busy negotiating with them on terms and what not. Also have 3 trade shows in Vegas this next few months so no time to indulge my hobby. On the bright side I am down about 24 lbs out of the 45 i wanted to lose before i start the torso portion of the suit.
Will try to get an update posted end of may.

Thanks for the continued interest Peek and George

Im Back !!
OK so its been a busy summer and my time is running out for the cosplay entry for NYCCC. I will be posting weekly and more for the next month or so until i am done.
0811151030.jpg Work completed on hand number 2 time for paint.
0812151336.jpgBoth hands coated with stone effect spray. If you look closely you will notice that symmetry between the hands is off. Very sad about this and i should have caught it early on. However i am now under a serious time crunch and will have to hope that it will not be to noticeable when costume is complete. I used two separate build methods on the hands which resulted in slightly different proportions..oh well i am a noob.
0812151345.jpg0812151346a.jpgOne more coat then i sand down ruff edges and prep for airbrush effects. See next message for current project history.

OK so here is the quick rundown.
1. whole suit needs to be airbrushed for shadow effects and scarring highlights
2. i hired a professional seamstress to do my pants. After 6 failed attempts i give up.
3.need to build mannequin of torso to start last piece of build.
4. need to dry fit completed pants and adjust accordingly
5.need to design belt that will float over either legs or torso for free waist movement.
6. i have decided to cut the jaw line on the mask all the way through and use elastic to hing. My lower jaw will be secured to it and will allow for at least some mouth movement
7. need to create larger field of vision in mask and ventilate the suit in some manner.

Such a large list and so little time.

Welcome back,Hap :thumbsup You're doing great so far.
Don't worry about the list of "Thing"-to-do...you're well on your way.

Forgive me for perhaps being direct, but if so much time, money and effort is involved, and you would want this to be a success, why set a deadline for yourself?I see this often and keep scratching my head. You probably build this costume once in your whole lifetime, but conventions will always be there. Why not take your time and visit the convention anyway ?
Just a thought/opinion in general.

Good luck for now !

So if one has any doubts about how big there belly is then one should build a mannequin mold of themselves..lol Very depressing. All built and ready for foam.0812151409.jpg0812151409b.jpgSad part is I lost 43 lbs for this build...looks like I have about 43 to go.

Finished the airbrushing on mask today. Still unsure about cutting the jaw out to make it movable..I may wait to the very end to see if i have time.
I feel like the airbrush detail brings the face to life and really highlights some of the scarring i spent so much time cutting in. The funny thing is my kids feel like i took away to much of the cartoon look by doing this. Oh well you cant please everyone.
I included the before and after shots, you be the judge and let me know.
