Marvel Thing 2015 build

I think it looks better with the shading (and your details will show up better in pics because of it). Though you may want to do some shading in your eyeslits and inside the edge of the mouth. I find the transition of colour there looks a bit off somehow.

No offense intended, as this build is so great, but I think it would look better if the shading was confined to the crevices only. This could be addressed easily by just highlighting the edges of the flat surfaces to cover the brown overspray which is on the faces of the "rocks". Perhaps by using a dry brush technique? Try a small area and see if it doesn't make it look a lot cleaner/sharper. Just my opinion and it looks great as it is!

Ok. I have been pretty busy working on this costume and figured I would upload some progress before it gets away from me.

This is dry fit I did before doing the pants. It was a very good thing I did this as a lot of the foam tore and split from the stress of all the stones. After the fit I was able to re secure and enforce all seams under where the pants would be.

Work on the pants. Final product looks a little baggy but when pulled up they fit pretty decent. The only way I could get them to be skin tight was to glue the material on and I really did'nt like the way it looked.

Started the sloppy process of building bulk on the torso. I have to switch over to the upper arms before I can go any father building up the back and chest. I will need to make the upper arms and torso truly massive to look appropriate to the massive hands and forearms I have complete. This is where that ball and socket approach should help me out. Lets hope that what i see in my mind can be engineered in the real world.

Started carving in some general shapes even though im not done bulking it out. Needed to get a feel for where I needed more mass.

If the torso seems oddly long its because it is. I want to make sure i have plenty of material to work with when I dry fit this with legs on.
Will continue to work on foaming the torso and upper arms as well as finish the shading effects on the forearms and hands over the next few days.
Goal is to be on to stoning by the end of next week.
Thanks to everyone for there support.

This is already one of my favorite builds,no matter how it turns out :thumbsup
Good luck on the torso,Hap - fingers crossed

So just a quick update. I have been working on one of the upper arms to see how big I need it to be for proportion and to be honest im pretty happy with end result. Still a lot of customizing, padding and trimming to do but I think im going to be able to make this work. Goal is to have torso ready for test fitting and trimming by Monday. Will post as I go.

Current status report.

finished 2nd upper arm. Continuing to tweak and pad out chest and back.

Time for the test fits. I knew there would be a lot of tweaking so on this series of fits I am just addressing the fit of the head on the shoulders and the fit of the shoulders into there sockets.
0823151721.jpg0823151602.jpg0823151737.jpg0823151738c.jpg0823151738f.jpgOk so after 7 test fits and trimming and adding and taking away it appears that I have a solid fit for the head and shoulders. Next I will test fit with Legs for the proper trim out on the waist. Once that is done I will tackle the brutal task of fitting the lower forearms and hands with the upper arms. This part will be the most difficult of the build I'm afraid. Wish me luck!!

I'd be slightly cautious about relying on velcro to hold it together.Based on my own experience with a hulk costume (with fairly similar construction) there can be quite a lot of force put across the back of the suit. You might need something a little more robust to take the strain and then have the velcro to just keep the edges in place.

Just a thought. Great build.

This is an awesome build man! Looks so cool.

For the back closing I would use a couple snaps and then velcro :)

I would suggest elastic strapping with buckles on the inside to hold it together, then your Velcro idea to cover it all up.
"Fantastic" build!
