Marty McFly's Skateboard - Valterra Splatter Deck Conversion

so let me get this straight joe. Your giving away free boards and helping everybody else out but I'm sitting here with no board and a forced refund???? Am I missing something here? Shouldn't you and ken be bending over backwards trying to help me out with my situation? It just seems like your playing the nice guy role now and it's starting to stink to be honest with you.

Here's what happened. I get my board after waiting since august and it's not packaged correctly and is damaged with parts not fitting. I contact you joe through the forums and i was directed to ken. Kens tells me to ship the board to madrid in La or wherever. Shipping from NY is expensive to LA and there was no word of you guys taking care of return shipping. OK whatever so Ken tells me to ship to his NY address just so the shipping on my end is less expensive. Thanks for looking out but I still should of gotten reimbursed for that which i didn't the shipping was coming out of my pocket no matter what. I ship the board UPS with signature and insured. Ken or whoever gets my board and I still heard nothing back. I come on here make a post about you joe not being around for a minute then poof you magically appeared. I said I better not get my board with the incorrect parts because that's not what i ordered from the beginning. All i wanted was my board sealed with no damage??? Was I asking too much joe and ken? Now as I read through the thread I see how much your bending over backwards for everyone else. Was it something I said?

Pitbull, I'm sorry that things went down for you the way they did. Being vocal about all the problems with the boards isn't what prompted Ken to just give you a refund. It was that plus your comment about visiting the NY address where Ken had you send the board. Ken lives in Canada, but that NY address is the home of some of his family friends.

I don't think you ever meant anything personally against me, and if you did, I certainly never took it that way. I just think you wanted the board you were promised.

Are you sorry?

First of all I NEVER wrote ANYTHING saying I'll be visiting the NY address lmao nice try. I said I have the address just in case I never got a replacement board at least I know where the property I rightfully own is. NOW your telling me you issued me a refund because I wanted the board I was promised uuuuhhhhhhhh yeah and I'm sure everybody wants the same board they were promised also NO? BTW is ken lurking and reading these posts or are you going back telling ken everything were saying? It seems you had just as much say about my refund along with ken.

I got my board a few weeks ago. Interesting to see that everyone apart from me got the correct Madrid sticker with MFG after it, mine didn't have that. 30th anniversary sticker in the box? has anyone got a photo, I didn't get that as far as I can see..I got the wrong brushings and copers too

Pitbull, if you still want to buy a new board I can help arrange it directly through Madrid. They don't sell them direct, but I can ask them to handle your order. I didn't offer you my own personal board because I already gave it to someone else here on the RPF a while ago and Gary offered to sell you his at cost. As for the blank board, I offered that to whoever wanted it. Made sense that Roland wanted it, but it was for whoever asked first. Could have been you. Send me a PM if you want to order a board.

Can you post a photo of what you got? I'm not sure what's going on over at Madrid. There's plenty of things for me to deal with here without all their new manufacturing issues. I'm sure they'll replace the decal for you, and the bushings and the copers. Please call Madrid direct and ask Shane to put you on the list of people who need these things replaced. Or, send me a PM and I'll email your information to them, either way. Madrid Skateboards (714) 897-5656

Pitbull, nobody's denying that Ken hasn't handled this well, frankly not even Ken. It's clear that he got in way over his head. It's also clear that you'd love to have someone's head on a pike over all this, and it seems you'd happily settle for mine. While I think I've helped you, it's clear that you don't think I've helped you enough. So, if you let me know what you would like me to do to continue to help you, I'll do what I can.

Keep in mind, though, that I don't own weregoingback.com. I don't even work for Weregoingback.com, and haven't since the end of October. I helped Ken organize a lot of really epic projects and events for WGB30, but once the 30th Anniversary of Back to the Future was over, I went home like everybody else. Ken owns weregoingback.com. Everyone bought skateboards from Ken, not from me. I worked a small amount on the the original skateboard project back in 2010, and I almost didn't even get a board out of it. I argued about it and eventually got one. When 2015 rolled around, I wanted to revisit that project because I thought it could be done a lot better. I did all the research, tracked down the hero board, recreated all the graphics and all the vintage decals. The deck was my department. The hardware was Madrid's job and the rest, including fulfillment, was up to Ken.

When I saw the trainwreck that this project was becoming, I decided to help. I think I have helped, and I'm certain there would be a lot more angry people if I hadn't. Honestly, I could have just as easily... not helped at all. Actually, that would have been a lot easier. But, I do believe that anything worth doing at all is worth doing right, and I also think that people who can help, should help. This was a great project when it started, and I'd rather it finish great. Well, as great as possible, with three hundred and fifty people enjoying their boards. Yes, that's how many boards were made. I just heard the total.

Anyway, Pitbull, all of the issues that you had with your first board, the lack of shrinkwrap, the nose scratch and the coper not fitting properly, were all manufacturing issues that Madrid would need to remedy. You brought the problems to my attention, and I brought them to Ken's attention for you. You worked out the return directly with Ken. I know that he agreed to pay you back for the return shipping, so when you posted that you hadn't been reimbursed yet, I asked Ken about it for you. He told me that you still haven't told him how much it was. Regardless, if you want me to help you get reimbursed from Ken, tell me know how much it was, and I'll tell Ken how much it was for you, and I'll make sure he reimburses you. If you don't want my help, send Ken an email and tell him how much the return shipping was.

As for my week 'off' from all this skateboard insanity, it wasn't very magical at all. But since you asked, my office is the top floor of a second structure behind my house. It recently rained unusually hard for California, and I discovered a pretty substantial leak. Luckily, there was construction already happening at my property, so the next morning I had the guys take a look at the roof, and discovered that sections of it were actually in pretty bad shape. So, for the next week, my roof was literally torn apart, even some rafters had to be replaced, and then they put a whole brand new roof on. Anyway, I was out of my office that week. Sorry. I'm back now.

Am I sorry things went down for you the way they did? Absolutely. Do I have an opinion about it? Absolutely. Am I going to share my opinion? Nope. The bottom line is, when you wrote, "...I live in NY and have Ken's address God forbid they try screwing me which I hope won't be the case here," it sounded threatening, to Ken. Things haven't gone perfectly, obviously, but you never actually had a reason to think you wouldn't get your replacement board from Madrid. At any rate, once Ken read what you said, he decided it was best to just refund your money.

Anyway, yes. I do speak to Ken on a semi-regular basis, mostly on your behalfs. Yes, Ken does read the posts here. He lives in Canada, not on Mars. And yes, if you want a new Valterra/Madrid board, I will try to help you get one. Directly from Madrid, this time, so that you won't have to deal with Ken. I can't do everything, but I can help facilitate that. I'll even get Ken to agree to a healthy discount for you. Despite your insinuations and your comments about me stinking, I don't take any of them personally. I know you're unhappy. Let me know if you want my help.

Hey Joe I had a quick question for you, would you ask Ken when he will be sending out our COA's? I received a message from him several weeks ago, then responded a few times, but haven't heard anything more from him about it.

Would I be able to snag one of those 30th anniversary stickers from you, please?!

Also, did I read correctly that you will be making and selling the correct copers?

Thanks!

James

Ok. I will ask Madrid to set aside the best board for you and I'll talk to Ken about a discount. I'm thinking $100 off. What do you think?

Although, going in, we already know that the current copers are wrong. Madrid said they've found another company that has copers like the first batch they shipped out. What I think makes the most sense is to have them not even put copers on your board until they get the new ones in and are certain everything's copasetic.

I'll ask Madrid to send me photos of your actual board for you to sign off on so there are no surprises. Then, I'll make sure they package it up properly for shipping.

Sound ok?

I'm starting to get the million mile stare over these boards and I'm honestly a little gunshy to get into chasing down COA's. I have asked Ken a half dozen times and his response is always, "they're going out tomorrow!" I'll ask again.

I can absolutely send you a 30th Anniversary sticker. As for the copers, that project is on hold pending a little more R&D. But, I'm game, it just depends on what's involved. Send me a PM with your address and I'll send you the 30th sticker.

Pitbull,

I've sent Madrid the request for your new board. I asked them to pay special attention and select a deck that has no imperfections. I asked them to make sure it gets the red/orange bushing and I asked them to not install copers until the new batch comes in and I've seen them. The board will have the new 'wave 2' wheels.

I've asked them to send me photos of the deck for you to sign off on. I'll also make sure it comes with the COA and the 30th sticker as well. LMK if there's anything else you can think of.

Joe is it possible we can wait for the new wheels and copers before sending it out so the board can have all the correct parts sealed up complete?

When you refer to mounting plates are you talking about risers, which are the plastic/urethane piece between the baseplate of the trucks and the board or the baseplate of the truck?
