Marty McFly's Jeans...Let's Talk

As as for the sizing, Guess DOES NOT size denim based on women’s charm sizes.
As far as I can tell: 4 digit style numbers were women’s and 5 digit styles were men’s when it came to Guess jeans.
These are women’s jeans. I don’t know why no one ever wants to believe this. Go look through tons of vintage shops and swap meets and literally 10s of thousands of listings online for vintage guess jeans like I have and let me know if you come to a different conclusion, but all the evidence points solely in one direction.

Size 12 and a 5 number style code. Currently on eBay.

Size 10 and looks to be 5 numbers, also on eBay.
Has anyone contacted Guess to see if they know if it was a men's style? I seriously doubt Michael J. Fox would wear women's jeans.

Interesting. That "T" in the first style number is also throwing me. These aren't children's/Teen's jeans, are they? In the 80's a size 10 or size 12 pant would be about 27-28 inches, so it's within Guess' wheelhouse if they are adult charm sizes,.

I'd be interested to know what year those are from. Anything 80's styled and anything today that I've seen is done strictly by waist measurement. Maybe everyone at Guess got really confused in the 90s. haha

TheNickFox I'll PM you the links, but one does say girls, but not the one with the T. These are definitely early '80s based on the tag style and button.

Thanks for helping me find the jeans Michael Fox wore in part 1. Now that that mystery is solved I was wondering if anyone knows what kind of jacket Michael J Fox wore in Teen Wolf. The jacket is all blue, looks like a mix between a members only and a baracuta. Can't seem to find one close.

I want to say that's a generic Harrington jacket. I was finally able to get a pair of 1050s in a size 32. They're a bit tight still, but would be bearable to wear at a con. Fit pretty accurately length wise to me too. I have the whole outfit now except the jacket and vest. I may have to find another Shah Safari shirt as my Large is way baggy IMO. If anyone wants specific pictures or anything let me know. (Style tag, buttons, etc.)

Little late to the thread, but I’ve been having trouble finding a pair, or figuring out what size I’d need! I’m a 31x32 in most jeans, sometimes 30x32. Anyone close to my size with some tips? Thanks everyone and great detective work!

The largest size I believe these were made in was a 32. That’s a vintage 32 though, which fits like a 30 more or less.

Sizes on the extremes of their scale don’t come up frequently, so your best bet is to set up search alerts On Etsy and EBay for guess style 1050 jeans so you can check as many pairs as possible for your size.

The 22050 is a very similar style in men’s sizes, with the main difference being the seat/yoke being different, and the back pockets being further from the yoke.

Happy hunting!

Would you want to sell the Large Shah Safai Shirt? I've been looking for one.

32 is the largest I’ve ever seen in the 1050s, (really closer to a 30...one of the smallest men’s sizes of jeans) yet any style with 5 digits in it can be found in larger sizes consistently.
I actually got super lucky and managed to find a set in size 36 waist! I'm closer to a 33-34 but thankfully these vintage Guess jeans are always smaller than modern measurements today.

The yoke on those is different than the 1984 1050s and the 1987 1050s. Can you make out the style number on yours? If they’re 1050s then that would be a really cool data point to add to the chart of how they evolved.

Marty McFly, still keeping us on our toes after all these years!

Unfortunately the size and style stamps have completely worn off the tag so I cannot confirm if they are infact 1050’s

I also found this pair in size 32 as well, but again unsure if they are actually 1050’s based on the yoke, but that shape of the yoke may be different due to the sizing itself; Vintage Guess Straight Leg Denim Jeans Mens - Back to the Future - Marty McFly | eBay

Try using a black light to see the style number. It worked for me.

I've just found this pair. It's a bit beat up but looks pretty good to me. What do you guys think? This thread has been very helpful. Thank you all.

This should probably be in another thread, but I would start looking at CWU/36 jackets NOT made under military contract- i.e. Polo Ralph Lauren brand. He did a lot of military styles (not just US mil styles) for the general public. That is based on the pocket style- large, high and angled with a top flap, and rounded corners to the collar. Mil spec ones use Velcro under the flap (to hold them closed), and no bottom snaps at the waist- just a front zip. This jacket also has a storm flap, so perhaps a CWU/45 would be a better starting point.

Yep, that's definitely the one though MJF used a one smaller size than yours if we saw the position of the belt loop.
Still what makes me wandering to these days.. when MJF used it in the movie, it looks so tight almost a skinny type cut when we knew this one is really baggy in nature...

That looks to be the 1987 style 1050 that was used in BTTF2 if I’m not mistaken.

I felt this happy coincidence was appropriate to share here; a magazine photo of Michael J. Fox wearing what appears to be Guess 1050 jeans.
**** Yeah Michael J_ Fox!.jpg

Don't ask me what's in his back pocket though, a terrible neon hat from the 80's perhaps?
