Marty McFly's Jeans...Let's Talk

Let's talk about Marty's jeans. We all know they were made by Guess.

I want to know what kind of guess jeans. Back then, and still today, Guess made a number of similar styles. Marty's were off the rack, not custom, because of the rush in finding wardrobe after the actor change. I think I've narrowed down between Guess jeans 1075 and Guess jeans 1050. The former appears to have additional stitching and buttons which may mean the correct one is 1050. Here's how you can tell the style-

The tag will have the style number marked somewhere on it as seen in the above photo. A few other key identifiers seem to be the lack of a back patch such as on Levi's and the brass Guess button-

That's the extent of my current research, any other input on this mystery is very much welcomed so that we are able to finally determine what kind of jeans Marty wore. We have determined almost his entire wardrobe, except for these jeans. Let's make this happen! I will update this thread as I find more details.

I know a few of you all have VERY accurate Marty costumes... what type of Guess jeans do you have? I'm still researching the originals. I've found that I can't find a pair of 1050s over size 32.

I'm still on the hunt too. Looks like women's High waisted, with rear pockets slanting upwards, stonewash Guess tapered jeans Don't know style #.

I don’t think they are women’s jeans... those are usually marked in single size number (4,6,8, etc.) the ones I’ve seen for sale are usually marked in regular men’s sizes (28,30,32,34). I actually have a pair of newer (90s) style 050 jeans and the pockets are regular I would say. I’ve been searching forever to find some of the old style in a size 34 but when I do, they are always one size small... maybe Guess decided that if you were over size 32, you don’t need skinny jeans:lol

Great work on this! I also noticed that the 1050’s front pockets are a little further away from the belt loops than Marty’s. Haven’t been able to find a style match now that I’m looking for that, though!

I think the distance between the pockets and belt loops has to do with the size. I’d guess he’s probably under size 30, maybe a 28.

Oh man that would be great to find out. It says this was another Gorges Marciano-related brand, so this could be something...I'm excited to see where this leads!

I was doing a little research and it appears the trademark “Georges Marciano for Soon” was filed in 1987 so they were Guess in the movie.

Ah bummer. But hey, now we've got a new brand to scour for jeans in case they did any similar runs of the Guess '84 stuff.
Also did you know Head Goonie makes replicas of the pants? Could be good for visual references when scouring ebay:

Very true. I did see headgoonie was making jeans, however I don't personally think they are extremely accurate. Also they're about $200 US I think, vintage Guess ones are like $50. They could be useful though.

That's a fair point on the price. That's why I haven't committed to getting a replica jacket yet (still hoping to find a real one in Small with leather accents or monotone denim accents to alter). And I did think the Head Goonie jeans were a teeny bit too dark for Marty's.

Here I have it folks, THE Marty Mcfly jeans finally discovered.
But first, some screencaps:

As you can see, the belt loops are much shorter that typically found on most Guess jeans, as the stitch happens right under the lower waist stitch (as circled). The second screencaps shows the space between the pocket and the crossstitch, which is little to none (I believe the spacing widens slightly from Michael’s butt). And as is commonly known, the front two belt loops on the pants perfectly line up with the pocket stitch as shown in screen cap three. So enough of that, here are the photos you’ve all been waiting for:

Wowza! Incredible work! They check every box! Funny enough, my discovery is identical in every way except one - the one I found has zippered ankles. My theory was that the costume designer might’ve taken the zipper out and stitched them back up to achieve the taper. They even have that whiskering/bleached combo that his do.

But it looks like The Searcher found the real deal!

So are they men’s or women’s? I’ve always wondered. And do they have a readable style number?
