Mark VII (leisurely paced) cardboard build

Dude that looks awesome! I to love cardboard, made a 2012 Dredd helmet from it and is still my fav, it takes resin well and bondos nicely. Great job keep it up :)

Thanks a lot bud! Yeah I used to be more of a foam guy but I'm loving the cardboard process, plus it's super cheap(free actually)

can I ask you a simple question?

it seems like you have made the chest and back as 1 piece as well as the cod and abs, how did you get into it? it looks like it's a nice fit so I can't see how you managed to get into the torso if it's 1 unit (If you get what I'm saying)

It's a pretty snug fit but I just slid the lower torso on like a girdle or pants,it went on pretty easy and then just put the upper half on like a shirt. It took a bit of maneuvering but surprisingly comfortable to move around in.

Started resin on the lower torso and helmet last night and got some more bondo put on the patriot helm.

I'm like you, Ive started Darksides MarkVII in Foam, Paper, Cardboard, and back to paper. Kept getting burnt out. Cardboard is definitely my favorite medium. I lucky live next to an IKEA where they have huge sheets of cardboard, I can just pull at up take as I need. Im not just taking my time swell. Hoping to post some pictures once I get the abs and back done. Thanks for the modivation!

Very cool! Definitely post some pics on here and in your thread as well,it always helps encouraging fellow builders to keep up with an ambitious project like this. Good luck on your suit!

While I wait on some resin to dry on the Mark VII, I figured why not start another suit? Mark 33 Silver Centurion inbound! Thanks to Gaiatron and MiddleFinger for the files!

Your Mark 7 suit is looking great! It's rare that you find cardboard builds so clean. Also I'm glad that you're making my suit! Those are actually the temporary waist I uploaded a while for for people eager to start their build. The file I have on my thread now is updated with the abs and spine added (which I'm sure you know). But the waist was tweaked slightly so the abs and spine would fit, so I'm not sure if that file will fit properly with the abs and spine of the new file, but it's very possible that there won't be a problem at all!

Thanks a lot bud! They're great files, having a blast so far with the build.

Looking really good. Are you putting fibreglassing in to the suit or is it just resin and bondo?

Just resin and bondo, thought about fiberglass but the cardboard is pretty rigid and I can also pour resin into the corugated grooves to give it tons of extra support and strength

The most rewarding project :), Congrats!!
Thanks very much! We're super excited

Hey man, that is really useful to know. I thought i'd have to fibreglass too so you've just saved me about 30 hours work. Thank you. Be careful with the length of the legs-I'm the same height/weight as you and I ended up with legs about 4 inches too long after I scaled up the suit for my frame. Good luck with Stark junior.

Thanks a lot brutha,I'll definitely keep the leg length in mind when it comes down to final fittings and such.

A little more progress on the Iron Patriot helm. With all of the basic construction of the Mark VII finished, this thread may turn into my Iron Patriot build(cardboard of course) until I save enough scratch to get some more Bondo and resin, then it's back to hardware mode for Mark VII!

I have also finished making mine and I am having trouble in connecting the thigh and shin together. I used chicago screws for the bicep to forearm but not sure what to do with the thigh to shin. the only parts I have to work with are the bit next to the knee and the 2 extentions from the thigh, they don't even line up (and will have wrong pivot points)

any ideas?? I can upload a photo if it helps
