Mark 46 build 3D print

Just finished a coat of 2 part filler. Ready for primer. Filled in the print lines nicely. Can't wait to get some red on this.

Any recommendations on 3D printers ? I am new to this world and live in Germany.... I was thinking of the Prusa i3 Hephestos because it is not that expensive... Robo3D R1 would cost me 1.000 € here in Europe. Is it worth it or should I go with the Prusa i3 hephestos ? Thanks a lot !
By the way: Phenomenal build TKCC71

There are several discussions on 3D printers already, so it would be best to ask your questions under one of those topics after you have read up a bit. The situation in Europe isn't all that different from United States. HobbyKing has a warehouse in the Netherlands and they have excellent deals on filaments and offer cheap printers. Thomas Sanladerer did a (rather harsh) review of Hobbyking's Malyan 150 just this week on his Youtube channel. Having watched that review & owned a Wanhao i3 for a few months, I can see that there are some significant differences as well even though Tom claims that the same review covers the Wanhao as well. Bottom line is that it might not be the safest printer, but it's pretty solid for the price and easy to upgrade etc.

Here's one of the existing topics on 3D printers:

Ok I have to share this. Its not a Mark 46 and is a little off topic, but it is so cool and the talent that this guy has is amazing! Wow!!!! This was on the Stan Winston School of Arts.

Could really do with a 3D scan of me done, so I could try on the suit before printing...........

ShaunDark80 Would only work of you go for a professional 3D scan. The Kinect sensor or 123d catch are not sufficient. The scans are way too irregular

Really love you work!

I'm starting too whit 3D printing, how you glue part together?

Saudering gun. Mostly doing it from the inside.

Thanks

I agree, I started with the Kinect and didn't like the mesh it produces. Took a lot of work to fix it.

Semi related question, I expect some shrink/warping on printed armor parts-but is anyone having issue with pieces fitting together for welding/gluing? Currently, printing in PLA, working on my chestpiece, and have separated most parts just fine, but my main chestpiece is too large so I have to slice it for printing. I print with supports & raft to insure minimal errors, but as I line up all the pieces - they don't all line up correctly. How much shrink/warping are you guys encountering with your prints?

I had some issues in the beginning. I had my printer too close to the airconditioning vent and peices were a little off. Moved it to the basement far away from any airflow. Doing much better prints now.

Back is finished printing and fits the chest peice well. Just need to figure out how I will do the hinges to attach the flaps to the servos. This is a shot of the back without the flaps installed.
