Man of Steel (Pre-release)

Awesome trailer! But I have a question for my fellow MOS friends. In other trailers we have seen superman flying in space, in this one they show he is talking to Jor-El on whatever he's flying from. Do you think that maybe the fortress (being it's rumored to be a ship) lifts off into orbit and might also be the watchtower and not just the fortress? Just a thought for discussion.

At the end of the trailer, and Jor-El says "you can save them all" , there's a slight flash, like shutting off a TV. I took that little flash as Jor-El's program shutting down and his holograph turning off before Supes heads back to Earth...

Who knows (Just guessing here) Maybe Clark finds something in his baby ship (key, other device) that he needs another full scale ship to activate, and it isn't until he finds another ship that he can access that info...

Any "American way" type things? As in the last film they totally chickened out with that line "truth, justice, .... all that stuff" or whatever cop out they used.
I always loved seeing Reeve flying the American flag back to the White House in SII.

Did it feel like the "hope" bit was an intentional nod to a certain campaign in recent history?
even that aside, "hope" isn't how I view that symbol at all.

Anybody else read about a small Wayne enterprise Easter egg in this movie ? Apparently it appears on a satellite seen on the movie somewhere. That's a nice way to suggest a possible JL movie in the future, and even if it doesn't happen, no harm done it's just an Easter egg. Curious to see if it's a Nolan style Wayne logo !

It's only a week away. I'm done watching clips and new trailers, etc. I can wait one more week. The more they come out with the more I worry I'm seeing too much of the film.

It is what it is. Bring on emo superman in his dirty kickball suit vs John Boorman's Zod. I'm sure I will be entertained, and yet still feeling the need for someone to make a real Superman movie. My hats off to the film makers for taking on such a ginormous task, but I fear they have failed to see what made Superman SUPER.

My feeling is, like you said, I'll be entertained nonetheless. However, I am liking most of what I see. It's a new and fresh look. Yes, there are some things they may have missed the mark on, but many would say Nolan missed the spot on Batman and I loved how those turned out. Little disappointed in TDKR but still good. Like with Batman begins it always takes the first one to get into the groove and work out details.

This movie is simply a take on the material from the point of view of an alien invasion. It's no different than any number of comic books who have went in a different direction for an origin story.

I pretty much feel we've had a "real" Superman movie since 1978. I like it a LOT. I'm ready for a different take, though, and thank goodness this looks to be not only a different take, but a really cool one at that.

Can't wait for the weekend! Gonna be hard to stay away from all the footage being posted every hour it seems, ha ha.

+1

Everyone has a different interpretation, and I feel that's what makes comic books (and the movies) so interesting. In fact, I don't think there's a one "right" way to depict any character. Hell, If we were to be 100% true to the first appearance origin stories, Batman would use guns and Superman would only be able to jump from building to building.

I'm eagerly anticipating the weekend as well. I'm kind of mad at myself that I didn't purchase tix for the showings at my IMAX theater that has reserved seating earlier than I did, because all the good seats for opening weekend (and the rest of the week) were snatched up pretty quick. I had to opt for a Sunday 9:15AM showing with just "OK" seats.
:facepalm

As the theater fills on Fort Jackson, you can sense a bit of anticipation in the air. Little kids and adults alike, are dressed in the famous red, blue, and yellow emblem. They are all here to see the new Superman film. I am lucky enough to be part of this. Yes I was "working" security for the film but as a life long Superman fan myself, I would not be denied. I had to see this movie. And what a movie it is. I will do my best to not share any spoilers. If you would like to know anything specific to the trailers or even a spoiler about the movie, please message me and I'll be happy to answer your question.
The film Starts on Krypton. No big shocker there. What I love about this film is EVERYTHING is explained. Why Krypton's core is unstable, why the planet is in danger, everything. This Krypton is something we have never seen before except in the comics. There are big nods to the John Byrne run of Man of Steel back in the 80's so pay attention. After we leave Krypton the rest of the movie takes place in present day with flashbacks to young Clark in Smallville with his parents. We follow Clark on his journey to become Superman, and oh what a journey it is. After Krypton, the rest of the movie can be described as, well, if you read Superman: Birthright or Superman: Earth One, just reference them. It's a nice mix of the two. The action in the movie is intense. We don't see any of Zach Snyder's signature slow motion fighting he's used in the past. This is Superman. He fights in super speed and unleashes his powers. Blows from super powered beings causing shock waves of power when hitting each other. The visual effects are amazing. Each power, his flight, heat vision, x-ray, etc, is well represented on screen. To me, this is everything I ever wanted to see in a Superman movie. There are three things that fanatic fanboys will knock this movie on. I am one of these fanboys but guess what? I don't care. These subtle changes work for the film and to be honest, it makes sense. I was sceptical of Amy Adams as Lois Lane. Loved her in this film. Great Lois for a new generation of Superman fans. Henry Cavill makes an awesome Superman. He has the quiet, respect you would think a man from Smallville would have but commands such authority as Superman. The whole time I was watching the film, I never once thought they chose the wrong actor to play him. Ma and Pa Kent were great. Kevin Costner, to me, owned each scene he was in. Even his Kryptonian parents. Russell Crowe did an amazing job as Jor-el. To me, Lara was under used but it doesn't take anything away from the story. Laurence Fishburne.....Great Perry White. Nuff said. Michael Shannon as Zod, you really feel for his character. He is an awesome portrayal of Zod. I'll be very surprised if this film doesn't preform well at the box office. We packed out a theater meant for only 750 with almost 800 people. Kids and adults sat in the isles and stood in the back of the theater, just to see a man fly again. And Damn if this movie didn't deliver. Oh, and unfortuneately, there is no scene after the credits. or at least there wasn't in this showing of MoS. I'm not sure if the one in theaters will have anything or not.

That's more the kind of review I want to hear with deep comic lore involved.

Is there time for him to do those smaller save the day for the little guy feats with all this epic stuff going on?

You Sir have been told countless times in this thread that the movie is going to suck, you're unfounded optimism is unwanted and misguided!

;) I for one can't wait, looks like great fun!

I've read 2 reviews of the movie, and now, unfortunately, I know that
- "Superman" is never said
- Lois knows that Clark is Kal-El
- Metropolis is not referred to by name
- Krypton is destroyed (as if there was any doubt, but still)
I have never read a review with so many outright spoilers, minor though they may be, that I hadn't been warned about. Read reviews at your own risk, guys and gals.
