Man of Steel (Pre-release)

One of my best friends is an over the moon Doctor Who fan - and I don't mean the kind that jumped on the bandwagon as soon as Hot Topic started selling stuff - he's got every episode (save the missing ones) all the way back to Hartnell. We had this discussion once of how The Doctor represents the British slate on what a hero is - scholarly, non-violent - sort of like an intergalactic professor - While Superman is a total American ideal of what makes a hero - big, muscular, fighter who defends those who can't possibly help themselves (at least the original Superman did this).

And thanks to the wonderful writing of Russell T Davis (still no sarcastic emocon) - The timelords came back didn't they? Timothy Dalton was one of them. I admit not following he show so I don't know if that's a dream sequence or what.

Not sure how the Doctor came into a debate we'd moved past from about how watered down Superman's uniqueness has become (especially given he's not a comic book superhero) but whatever.

For one episode, yes. Then the Doctor shot a diamond and reversed the polarity and the Time Lords went away, taking the Master with them. There's still Jenny though, she's technically Time Lord, though the Doctor doesn't know about here.

The only way I will think it's Nolan doing this is if Superman is trained by :ninja's, upgrades his suit every sequel, and has this really forced Clark Kent voice:sick

Ninjas were a good way to condense the training he has in the comics into movie terms. Pretty sure Lady Shiva counts as a ninja anyway, and she trained him at one point. Burton actually introduced the concept of changing the suit every sequel, which led to Joel's batnipples, so can't hold that against Nolan either. Voice didn't bother me as much as everyone else, but different strokes.

He upgraded it once in the movies because he needed more freedom of movement. Any changes made to the suit beyond that, if there even were any, were purely cosmetic. And that leg brace he makes in TDKR doesn't count.

Don't get me wrong, I had no problems with Nolan's first two Batman's. I just know and accept the new style of superhero writing. I'd rather have a Batman Begins over a X-Men Origins:Wovlerine :sick

I'd rather have an Incredible Hulk movie starring Jim Carrey as Bruce Banner, Mr. Bean as Hulk, produced by Michael Bay, and directed by Uwe Boll, than have another minute on screen of DINO (Deadpool In Name Only).

They upgrade it because they want to sell more toys.:p

Found this picture.
To some extend, I still prefer the right one.

........even with the pants on.
If talking about fashion, maybe lower the belt (hipster), and made the pants more like a boxer/short (not V line, but more horizontal), like Supes Return version.

1. It is bright color
2. Yellow belt is important
3. Longer cape (okay)
4. Bigger S (a bit too big but okay)
5. Textured fabric (is the trend, so okay)
6. Hair hook on the forehead
7. Hope it has S logo at the back/cape too
8. No unnecessary lines (the thigh lines make it was stolen from TASM)

I actually still prefer the left one just because its very different from the original. I like the right one too tho.

It's not a huge departure...aside from the lack of red undies, an understated "belt", and the added side and cuff details, it's actually quite similar. And the darker colors, of course. But I agree with you on that.

I don't mind change, but the darker suit doesn't just look darker, it kinda looks dirty.

I think it would look better if there was some sort of belt, instead of a miscellaneous oval above his crotch with some lines on his sides. Either have a belt, or don't have one. Why a pseudo-belt?

I don't mind the new costume at all. My childhood images of Superman will ALWAYS include the red underwear, but when you really think about it...why did he need to wear red underwear? There's no doubt that the traditional 'colour scheme' is pleasing to the eye. A little bit of gold colour detail around the the waist of the new costume would be nice though, IMO.

Superman looking pissed. Just doesn't fit the character to me. Of course it's just a pic. I'm still excited to see the film though.

I love the trailer, but I hate that they keep on recycling it over and OVER! Show us something new... just a taste! I want this to be good.... Please don't disappoint Zak!

I'd actually rather them not show more material when more and more commercials start to pop up. I'd much rather be surprised when I get my butt into the theater...
