Ok, I have a fairly open mind going into this. Yes as we have all pointed out, the suit is different to say the least. And to be perfectly honest, I'm 100% ok with it. Christopher Reeve is the Superman I grew up with, to me like many others he is the definitive Superman.
I will say though I have thoroughly enjoyed each actors portrayal of our Kryptonian hero. It's what I think makes it fun. Yes, this costume may be missing the iconic red trunks and he may not have the spit curl. Bit really, to me anyways those things, as iconic as they may be don't define who Superman is the least bit. I define Superman as being the one hero you can always count on to help you no matter how much jeopardy he may be subjecting himself too.
So the costume, different as it may be still visually to me has enough characteristics in it to say to me "Hey, that's Superman!" I really didn't care much for the Routh costume either, still can't say that I do all that much, yet whether or not I liked it completely, it still was a Superman costume. And no matter how much I dislike the rehashed Donner story for that one, Routh acted like I imagine Superman would act and had all the powers Superman has.
Superman is far more than a costume. As defining as the costume is to recognizing him, I could careless what he wore as long as he did what I believe he would do if he were real.
So I say let's give it a chance and see how things turn out. I believe whole heartedly that Cavill can once again make us believe a man can fly.
