Man of Steel costume thread

Zod did, and didn't he at least have 5 o'clock shadow in superman 3 or something when he was exposed to red kryptonite or something?

Supes has sported a beard more than a few times in the comics - go back to the 60's and 70's when he would end up on a planet with a Red Sun or even more recently (this was in the 80's), he abandoned Earth thanks to a power flux in his Superpowers, causing him to not trust himself around humans in fear he would hurt someone accidentally.

I am a big fan of this new look. Superman has become more and more dated over the past decade. The franchise has needed something like this, so with the new 52's it has come at a great time. I love all the detailing/texture in the suits in recent superhero movies. Its something you would rarely see in comics, mainly due to it being a nightmare to redraw all the time. The textur really adds a different dimension to the look and feel of the character.

As for Calville damn he is stacked, seriously though what is Hollywood feeding these guys lol. They are all looking like real superhumans, it's exactly how a super hero should be portrayed. Heck they have been drawn like this for years why not brin it to the big screen? IMO it makes them the larger than life characters they are meant to be!

I maybe the only one here but I like snyders works, the dramatic camera angles, gorgeous grading, slow mo, it's going to give an edge to an already tired story. That same edge which made the Nolan batman films the success they are now.

Good luck to them on the movie, always nice to see a new take on things!

Ok, I have a fairly open mind going into this. Yes as we have all pointed out, the suit is different to say the least. And to be perfectly honest, I'm 100% ok with it. Christopher Reeve is the Superman I grew up with, to me like many others he is the definitive Superman.

I will say though I have thoroughly enjoyed each actors portrayal of our Kryptonian hero. It's what I think makes it fun. Yes, this costume may be missing the iconic red trunks and he may not have the spit curl. Bit really, to me anyways those things, as iconic as they may be don't define who Superman is the least bit. I define Superman as being the one hero you can always count on to help you no matter how much jeopardy he may be subjecting himself too.

So the costume, different as it may be still visually to me has enough characteristics in it to say to me "Hey, that's Superman!" I really didn't care much for the Routh costume either, still can't say that I do all that much, yet whether or not I liked it completely, it still was a Superman costume. And no matter how much I dislike the rehashed Donner story for that one, Routh acted like I imagine Superman would act and had all the powers Superman has.

Superman is far more than a costume. As defining as the costume is to recognizing him, I could careless what he wore as long as he did what I believe he would do if he were real.
So I say let's give it a chance and see how things turn out. I believe whole heartedly that Cavill can once again make us believe a man can fly.

Kind of hard to pretend to be a weak nerd like Clarke with that build lol

Well that was kind of one of the things Frank Quitely did so well in All-Star Superman. His posture and stuff was really slouched to make him look smaller and almost like a hunchback. Lex didn't even realize that Clark was Supes at during an interview at point blank range when Clark lost his classes.

Reeve managed to do this pretty well, and I hope Cavill can pull off a convincing Clark too.

The need to show him shaving like in the cartoon. Heat vision reflected in the mirror. :thumbsup
Years ago, when John Byrne was penciling Superman, he showed shaving by reflecting his heat vision off a small, polished metal piece from the ship that originally brought him to earth.

I like that better than the mirror concept. Superman's heat vision would melt a mirror, IMO...

I think in the end, it will be the movie itself that makes or breaks this potential franchise. Batman's Dark Knight suit is probably the most unpopular suit and yet the movie went on to become the biggest money making superhero movie of all time. People were worried about the neck being too thin, and yet with a good story, I hardly noticed it. Conversely, Green Lantern wasn't that great but it wasn't due to a lacking of boots (which again, I hardly noticed). That being said, I like this suit better then the Returns suit. I like th bigger S but not a fan of the Spidey texture. I did really like the little tweeks that people have done on this board with coloring and with the belt.

I think the deal breaker for me on this suit is the texture. I like the shop with the more subdued texture far better.

I think due to the texture and the muted tones the S blends into the suit too well.

I'm also with the crowd that would like to see some red, yellow, or combination, around the mid-section. I think it would balance the colors better myself.

I'm willing to give the movie a chance. I hope the story is good, and the acting is better.
