Making a Cosplay Captain America TFA work...

I've slowed down a bit on my helmet making and picked up my uniform progress. I have totally abandoned my initial attempt and went the "modified Cosplay" route. I opted for the basic uniform as I will do all of my own leather work. My skills with my 1940's Singer is mediocre at best but I'm giving it a try. It originally had a zipper in the rear and moved it to under the left shoulder strap to hopefully be hidden when all is said and done. The stars are the work of Bamabat and buckles are hikz. I'm happy with both RPFers work, thanks guys!! I got some fabric that was close and continued the fabric down the back as in the movie. I replaced some of the fabric strap material with gray "seat belt" straps to give it that rugged, military, "real world" feel. The "trousers" are in a sad state and am still bouncing around how I'm going to fix those. Also not happy with the "blood red" ab straps and still working that out. More to come...

Nice! Looks awesome! Hoping to tackle this one day as I have a helmet on the way and am doing a shield build after that.

Subscribed! Can't wait to see how you tackle this one, Bobby. If it's anything like your helmet, you won't disappoint!

Thanks guys for the quick kick back!! Right now it still has that "out-of-the-box" new look and I'm hoping to weather it slightly when it's done. Darken up the grays a bit and accent the raised areas of the ab sections. I'm looking forward to the ammo pouches. I'm currently working on the belt, as it will be apart of the upper jacket and attach where the jacket zips up. Seems to be the only way I can have it attached to the back strap as it appears in the movie... Here is the holster I picked up to convert to a thigh rig. It's ashame because I believe it to be original WWI or WWII but it is not dated. If it were dated, I wouldn't even think of modifying it...

Wow the back looks really good.
Did you add all the detail on the abs and how are the pants in a sad state?
Talk about suspense and fanning curiosity.

Oh Bobby, this is going to be fantastic bud! I can't stop raving about your helmet to people and know that this is going to be none less spectacular. Gonna be awesome man!

No the abs are done like that as it comes from China... The pants are sad looking because it looks like some one took a pair of "Dickies" work pants and sewed the outline of the patched area with a double needle stitch... Still has hip pockets. Convenient if Cap carries around his wallet and car keys :rolleyes Here is what I'm talking about...

The thick, almost 3" leather belt will cover the upper portion of the pants, hiding the thin "civi" belt area. What I'm thinking of doing to the pants is sewing in patch pieces in the shape of the pre existing sewn areas to give it some depth and body to make it not look like slacks that some one drew on...

Oh and thanks Steamshovel. I am loving your shoulder stars. Although I am happy with my bamabat stars, yours has the right raised dimension coupled with the nice convex red background. Let me know if you have any more of those lying around... :)

Dude, Bobby, you are doing the exact things I was planning to do to this cosplay suit! Thanks for braving it before me. :) I love the helmet I got from you too, though I've got a bit more to do on it than I expected. You might see a PM from me soon.

Awesome work!

Aaron

Guessing from the photos this is the Hello Cosplay suit.????
Sad they did what looks to be good shoulders and abs and then just do stitch lines on the pants.
Will you be making the Kevin Gossett/Sandman 3 inch belt?
Found a 2 inch close stand-in at Target. Mossimo Brown Belt Style 278644.

I do happen! I'll get some down to you asap. I'll email you for your mailing address again bud.

Looking good.

I'm in the same boat with the pants that I have. Interested to see how you modify yours.

Man, awesome feedback!! I've been out of town for the past 4 days, so now I'm back on it. Stand by, more progress coming soon. This site and you guys really keep me going, thanks ya'll...

Not too much in the way of progress, just tedious work of cutting out pouches. Thanks to Sandman007's patterns; I used them as a base to start from but widened them a bit to suit my taste. Mine may not be totally accurate but I just liked them to be a bit wider. Thanks for your hard work Sandman, couldn't have done it without you! Here is what I have so far...
