Mad Max Interceptor Build Project

Does this guy look familiar?

That is Vince Gil who played The Nightrider. Sadly, in a video that can be found online he is sitting in the car, acting like the Nightrider, but he seems to have really forgot the lines he said and messes things up a bit. Oh well, hey he was in the movie and played a memorable character.

Nice Blue Heeler!! I would like to have one some day but don't think I can commit the proper amount of time that the dog needs and deserves. I agree, the weathering is awesome!!

In The Road Warrior he looks at the mirror on his right to see the biker coming up on that side, and then they show the dog. So yes, I guess is it easy to be confused by the sequence, but no, he was not supposed to be looking at the dog.

Ok, ask me how many times I have watched this movie frame by frame. About as many times as I have watched Star Wars frame by frame. LOL!

This is a picture of my car arriving at the port for shipping to the US. It was shipped with the other 2 cars you see. The orange one is an XB Falcon and the very pink one is an XA Falcon.

This is the 6-71 blower I got off of ebay for about $250 including shipping. All I really need is the blower case.

Someone painted the blower orange? Weird.

Well he was sitting in the wrong car! That's why.

And he's old.

LOL, yeah, he needs to be in a Holden Monaro.

Supposedly my blower was removed from a Detroit Diesel, so maybe it was rebuilt at one time and they use orange so that the shop that did it knows they worked on it? Just a guess.

I also have the zoomie exhaust pipes. Mine were made in Australia. An American who is into these things contacted the company in Australia that built them to see if he could get a few of them to have on hand. They informed him that they would no longer be producing them. He asked how many they had and they told him 35 sets, so he bought all of them!

I originally told him to let me know if he gets down to a dozen sets so that I could get a set off fo him, but then I decided to just go ahead and get them because he might forget to let me know if he gets low. I didn't want to take the chance.

Livin the dream Steve, great stuff.

The poor old often forgotten HQ Monaro Coupe.
Growing up in suburban Australia in the 70s- 80s, my allegience to the Holden camp was bestowed at birth so i was always defending the
Nightrider car against BoB while the whole time secretly drooling over the Ford.

Those Coupes are really hard to find but i have never seen a replica, which is strange cause it really is a smoking looking cop car and if you go by its last shot in the movie, had a frackin jet turbine in it and the only reason the Interceptor caught up was the Nightrider didnt man up after the chicken fiasco.........sorry, just had an 80`s flashback

Heres my tribute,

Hey! That model looks awesome! I like that you've even included the barely perceptible Maintain Right badge.

Wasn't the Nightrider's car "hopped up on methane?" and "very toey." LOL.

Does "toey" mean fast, as in it responds well to the toe on your accelerator foot? I've been picking up on Aussie slang over the years.

Steve

Its actually a proper Nightrider model, you can still get them from Comet Miniatures, you can tell by the taillights im getting old.

Toey has three meanings down here Steve, either its really fast, really nervous or really horny.
Hence the expression, " Im as toey as a Roman sandle".

Comet miniatures, eh? I have heard of them. I didn't know they still make the HQ Monaro. Thing is, I still have a 1966 Mustang like my wife's car to finish. She'd kill me if I did up the Monaro model.

Here is a pic of one of the wire harnesses out of my car. For an American it is kinda odd to see "Taiwan ROC" on the Ford part's tag on a 1970's car, but I realize Australia's proximity to Taiwan and understand the business reasons for it.

I lost my virginity In one of these. I had an xb coupe and a friend of mine had an XA Bathurst edition with the original paintwork. He totally stripped it back , stuck the Mm spoiler kit on it painted it black, etc etc. Although it looked good and turned some heads as there were not many replicas here in the eighties, if He had kept the Bathurst paintwork and the original XA front end it would be worth around 70 grand today.

Seems like only a few years back you couldn't give these cars away , now you can't find many coz they are all being shipped to the states.

Kdawg1, I am up in the Greater Cleveland area. Nice to see a couple more Ohio guys here.

Jedimaster, yeah, it seems many never realized the potential value of certain cars back when they weren't so old. The XA coupes are very rare now it seems, with low production to begin with and the longest rusting out of the XA/XB/XC series. Even though the real car was built from an XB I am actually kinda proud to be using an XA because of the rarity of these cars. Mine is a Fairmont and nothing special, other than having the 9 inch diff and 351. It was originally an automatic car but was made into a manual years before it was found for me. It also had SelectAire.

Steve

SelectAire? Fancy Air conditioning?

Yeah, the old muscle cars couldn't be given away. When I was a kid, there was a Daytona, with the big wing and nose, on a car lot for years. No one would buy the odd looking thing for a few thousand.

A guy I knew had both a 1968 Z-28 and a 69 Boss 302. He traded them both for a used Impala, for more room.

Those stories are kinda sickening, Terry.

Selectaire I believe meant that it was integrated into your heater controls and built into the car's heater system, like we are used to here, instead of the little AC box that mounted underneath the dash, like in the old 1960's Mustangs. The XA and XB Falcons could have the AC box under the dash, even though it was the 1970's. I may have this backwards, and if I do I am sure an Aussie can set us straight. ;)

Here's a pic of what was left of the factory sticker on the rear window that denoted "Selectaire".

My car was originally an automatic car. They did a great job switching it to a manual (Factory hydraulic clutch!!) and I didn't know, because I had not deciphered the codes, until I got under the carpet and saw this sweet bit of engineering....

Make sure you use the proper size innertube when doing this...

Cleveland I'm in Youngstown and work it Burton,Ohio small world! Keep up the great work this is going to be awesome love it!:thumbsup

Kdawg, my #1 fan evidently lives in Hinckley, Ohio. I got an email from him one day. I grew up right next door in Brunswick. Anyway, he found my videos, being a huge fan of Mad Max, and watched all 7 of them and noticed the license plate for the car was Ohio, and then the county was Cuyahoga. He was amazed that such a project was going on in his backyard! LOL!!!

Funny how we go to a global website to find people who are relatively nearby. ;)

Here's the pics of the zoomie pipes I got that were made in Australia. They are beautiful!

This has always been my dream car. For the longest time I was dead set on building one but I finally came to the reality of what it takes to build a good one and decided on a batmobile tumbler instead. Have you finished it? Would love to see more pics. Does Gordon Hays still sell parts for these?
