Mad Max: Fury Road

The embargo lifts today. You will notice that the movie is being praised and loved by almost every critic and movie site.

Hopefully it gets released here and I get to see the movie this week.

I don't like reading full reviews before watching any movie. So I usually only read some bits of it.

I am just going to share the opening two paras of Devin's review. You can choose to read more at the link below if needed.

MAD MAX FURY ROAD Review - A Modern Action Masterpiece | Birth.Movies.Death.

"Action is the purest form of cinema. They’re called ‘movies’ for a reason, and action is what they get across best. That action can come in many forms - slapstick, dance, even in the careful lack of movement, of chosen stillness - but when it comes to classical action you will not see a better film this year than Mad Max: Fury Road. Which means that this film, the fourth in a loosely connected franchise of post-apocalyptic action movies, is the purest work of cinema of 2015.

There is a running conversation we have with ourselves about whether or not artists lose it as they get older. It seems like they must - everybody gets slower, gets less interested in breaking new ground, has less ambition and drive. Many filmmakers dodder into their twilight years churning out lesser films, even as they are adored by their hardcore base (see Michael Mann). Quentin Tarantino has vowed to retire before he can hit the age of diminished returns - that’s how entrenched this piece of common wisdom is. But every bit of common wisdom has the glaring exceptions that prove the rule; one is Martin Scorsese, whose The Wolf of Wall Street riled up prudes - and he was 70 when that came out. Now joining him is George Miller, also 70, who is releasing a movie that has all the energy and vitality of a young man’s work, but all the control and precision of an old master."

ErikDavis: MAD MAX: FURY ROAD is a masterpiece and a must see. Two hours of stunningly gorgeous apocalyptic mayhem. Wicked and brilliant. Loved it!

colliderfrosty: MAD MAX: FURY ROAD absolutely blew me away. It's an action movie masterpiece and something you need to see on the biggest and loudest screen

devincf: A lot of us went to the same place in our MAD MAX reviews: masterpiece.

GuyLodge: Guessing it was the studio's call to keep it out, but MAD MAX: FURY ROAD would have been a most worthy and welcome Cannes Competition entry.

LimitedPaper: MAD MAX: FURY ROAD is inarguably the movie to beat this summer, and a sure-fire contender for top-5 status come the end of the year.

LimitedPaper: One of MAD MAX: FURY ROAD's best qualities: George Miller did not hold back on the weirdness. At all. I was SO relieved.

I am SO happy to hear that this flick is shaping up to be every bit as awesome as I'd hoped it would be. I can't wait to see it this weekend. :cool

I've expressed some concerns over this movie, looks like they were entirely unfounded. 31 reviews and it's still at 100% on RT. Gushing praise. My god, I'm gleeful. Mad Max has been one of my great cinema love affairs, and I'm officially pumped to get back into his world!

Just wish they could have gotten Mel in it someplace or Bruce Spence, the gyro copter pilot, as he's been in 2 of the originals.

Well, they got Hugh Keyes Byrne as Immortan Joe, so that's another actor who's now been in 2 of the films.

Three actors. Max Fairchild, who played Benno in the first film, and then as a pleading hostage on the front of Humungus' car in Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior.

And also, apparently, four actors who have appeared on Farscape have appeared in the films. Virginia Hey who played Zhaan was the Warrior Woman in The Road Warrior, Jonathan Hardy who voiced Rygel was Labatouche in the first film. Of course, Bruce Spence who played the Gyro Captain in The Road Warrior and Jebediah in Beyond the Thunderdome appeared in an episode of the show (he played Prefect Falaak in Season 4's "A Prefect Murder"). And recently, Melissa Jaffer who played Noranti in Season 3 and Season 4 of the show is reported as playing in Fury Road.

Dang. Seems like homerun and then some.

97% with 35 reviews. The first person who is incapable of experiencing joy has apparently given it a thumbs down (yeah, I've lost my ability to be calmly reserved about this movie--I'm firing on all cylinders. Come on Friday!)

I just had a very interesting thought about this. What if, for a twist, it turns out the villain in "Fury Road" turns out to be Toecutter, the bad guy from the first film (yes, I know it's the same actor, but I mean the same character)? Could you imagine the surprise of finding out that Toecutter didn't die in the third act of the first film like we thought, and went on to become this new villain in the film? It would be awesome to me if it turned out that Toecutter survived the first film and then went on to become this even more ruthless and evil bad guy, while Max went on thinking he killed him. And now fate has put Max and Toecutter back on the same collision course once more, and now Toecutter has an army to back him.

I know, it sounds way too out there, especially since Miller has reused actors for different roles in the series before, but I think this would be an awesome twist.
