It just seems wrong to not be filming in Oz.

I agree, it's like George Romero taking his zombie films to Canada and passing them off as Western PA. The vehicles look nice and since it's the same director maybe it won't be a total suckfest.

Didn't realize this was still in the works...excited/cautiously optimistic! :)

And yeah Probe Droid, if I ever win the lottery, I'm getting me a Mad Max Interceptor. So cool.

So, wait, is this a prequel? A sequel? A side story? A reboot?

The black interceptor, a "Pursuit Special", wasn't the standard MFP car (that'd be the yellow, red, and blue Fords).

If I had to guess, it'd be that this is a reboot, since the visual look seems to be very much The Road Warrior, rather than Mad Max 1. I'd bet they lift story elements from the other films (IE: Max's background), but otherwise I'd guess this is a whole new story.

Supposed to be set between the first and the second movie as far as I know.

Who is playing Max, is it Mel?

As Dorian Gray said, Tom Hardy is filling in the roll.

I was initially against a new MAD MAX, but once I heard they cast Tom Hardy, I became interested.

Hardy might pull it off. But will the director?

Thanks, I was worried there for a minute. Nothing against Mel, despite his personal life, but he's way to old for this now. Glad for a recast.

Tom Hardy is a great actor, but he doesn't call to mind Mel Gibson in the slightest. Not impressed with that news.

Are they going to try to tie MM and TRW together? I was always curious about that world, about how there was so much civilization in MM and TRW was just absolute wilderness. I know he went into the wastes, but it feels faaaar more drastic than just a shift in location.

There is a lot of room to play with between MM and TRW which hopefully make for a great flick. Tom Hardy has been in A LOT of films lately and I haven't really been disappointed yet (fingers crossed for Bane:confused)

After TRW came out they said MM also happened after an atomic war. That doesn't make any sense to me.
The trains were on schedule, the TV stations still worked and there no mention of it, people obeyed the law, crooks snuck around, and they cared what lawyers thought and due process.
It was more of a society gone bad. Then in TRW they said 'hey, let's say there was an Atomic War!!'
Brilliant idea for a sequel. And Max survived because he was in the outback, because his wife was killed.

Great to finally see some real pics, love the designs, thanks for posting.

I remember sneaking in my brothers car for Mad Max at the drive-in, standing in the cue for hours for Mad Max 2 and nearly walking out of Beyond Thunderdome. Was very wary of Hardys casting but have now got more comfortable with it and look forward to seeing what he brings to the iconic role. Although the production has been forced off shore, the crew is an Australian one and the unique feel of the first two movies i think will still come across.

The third Mad Max movie should have been the story between 1 and 2 but Dr Miller blew that one and theres no going back, the new story is i think, based around a community that left the wateland many moons ago, possibly the same group in MM2, the society of this group is based upon that of the Road Warrior, MFP etc. These people are again terrorised by gangs........ you now the rest.. Really hope it hits the spot. Conformation that BOB is back will make the owners of the ever dwindling supply of XB and XC Coupes very happy.

Never understood why in a world where fuel is a precious commodity, would they drive the most gas guzzling vehicles.

I guess it wouldn't be as entertaining if a guy driving a geo metro was chasing another guy in a prius. lol

Gas is at a premium sure, but it's a dangerous world requiring speed and power. The army doesn't mount .50s on a Prius either.

Exactly. You could put missiles on an ultralight, but it won't win the jet fight. You need something as fast as the enemy.

I wonder why they weren't chasing water though. There they are in the desert wearing leather and working around machinery, and they aren't thirsty.

I always wondered about the world change between the movies. Like said before the original movie would have fit more into the world falling apart and leading to the war not taking place after the war. Then again in "On The Beach" things kept going normally until the end too. Sounds like they retcon'd the first film to match the rest.

But in On The Beach the nukes hadn't hit Oz. Here they had. [In either case though, some people would just say screw it and go nuts.]

Man I really hope this movie doesn't suck mad monkey balls. It would be interesting to see how Max survived the atomic war. I really hope they include the war as a major part of the story. Very few movies have ever done this. Stories are usually always set in the time just before or after such cataclysmic events. It would be intriguing to see the world crumble from Max's point of view to showcase just how difficult his survival must have been between MM and TRW.

Glad to see the special interceptor back. I always loved that car. I really dug the fictitious clutch driven roots style blower.

Do we know this is set between MM1 and MM2? I mean, the presence of the interceptor with a full front cowl suggests so, but I don't see it as a given. It could just as easily be a reboot of MM1 or a retcon of MM1.

It is a fairly safe bet that Fury Road is not set betewwn Mad Max 1 and Mad Max 2.
The link that heads this thread says there were multiple BOBs and assumed they were extras
for its eventuall destruction, i think they are for other characters.

In Mad Max there was one Black On Black, made specially as a bribe to keep Max from quiting.

    "where'd you get it?!".

"A piece from here, a piece from there".

There were other black interceptors, like the one Nightrider stole. But they were more 'normal'.

This film could be set between Mad Max and Mad Max 2. On the other hand, we could also look at this as being a new story line altogether. As stated, the new Falcon does have the custom front end. However, there have been modifications made to it. I.e. the headlight covers are different, it doesn't have the spoiler section below the bumper and it doesn't have what they call the "Sunraysia" wheels on it. Nitpicking, I know, but if they were going to set it between the two original films then you'd think that they'd at least get the vehicle details right. I mean, the car is an important part of the first two films.

I guess we're going to have to wait and see what they do and where they go with the story line. All we can ask is that it doesn't suck and they stay as true as they can to the original films.

    Cheers,
    Lawrie.

I always liked the first Mad Max film since I saw it and felt the second wasn't as good and three...well the wheels just plain fell off :confused

I need to go back and look but does Oz have nukes? if so they'd get hit in a WWIII event, but let's say they don't get hit hard and what you see in the first film is a country trying to keep it together and slowly falling to pieces as they (like a lot of the world) depend on imports to survive i.e. food, fuel, hard goods et cetera.

They could do a new one set between one and two showing how we got to utter mayhem and freaks, might make the second film more sensible.

Only the third movie suggests that Australia got hit by nukes. The second film doesn't NECESSARILY mean that Australia got hit, merely that there was some sort of nuclear exchange. It's possible that, as fuel shortages increased, and urban brutality grew, people took to the highways and outback to try to survive, but then so did the road gangs.

The first one was just sort of a dystopian future where society is breaking down for an unspecified reason.

When i saw Mad Max 2 on opening day it didnt have that . It was put on later for the international audience, not that that means anything but the start of the movie was punchier. Actually, the more i think of it, Dr Millar actually gave the perfect bridge between 1 and 2 already.

madmaxmovies.com should answer all the questions on Fury Roads movie plot
and there is also an awesome pic of Mad Max concept cars made by Ford Australia.

I like the bottom one. Why do awesome cars like this never get made? You always see these cutting edge hot cars at autoshows and what rolls off the line is another cookie cutter crapbox.

Im gunna go out on a limb Wes and say that Mel will make a camoe in Fury Road. As i think it will be set a long time after TD and Tom Hardy wont be playing Max Rockatansky, surname important, Mel will film a short peice to help bridge the story. Im thinking this will give the closure they both want and give Miller the license to really expand the MM universe, enter anime.
Just a thought, thats still encouraged in some sectors.

The article in the First Post states the Interceptor (Pursuit Special!!!) will be back, but that SkyNews Press Release screen grab with the replica was from 2009.

Sweet! This is the first I have heard of this! It will either be really cool, or suck!

I thought ( and still think ) "Thunderdome" could have been ton's better, but that's my opinion!

Oh! I was wondering in TRW, where did they get their oil!

That Skynews pic was from an official shoot so i dont think the Bob was a replica but one of the production used models. I love the pic as its a great tease, the entire back half is covered and the metal grills on the light covers could easily have been stuck on. The more i think about it, i get further away from working out how Dr Miller has written these cars into Fury Road.
A picture from the docks would be helpful.

Well I hope this doesn't suck. I think they could do a lot with the franchise the way the world is today. Hardy has some big boots to fill though IMHO. Personally I don't mind when it is set in the timeline, but the cars have to be right where ever they do end up.
