Re: Mad Max: Fury Road Costumes Thread

I got some goodies in the mail today. A few pouches, but we've already seen those.
I used to actually work in the knife and cutlery industry, and we had Max's Chris Reeve in one of our display cases. I..wouldnt pay $300 for it. It's a nice knife, and it's a great company, but the metal that they use is not worth that price. I've seen them fail and become irreparable. So, I picked up a non-serrated Schrade for $40~ on Amazon.
The handle is close, and if the sheathe isnt as SA as you'd like it, you CAN purchase the Chris Reeve sheathe separately, and the knife should fit. I make no guarantees, though. I don't own a CR to test it. :)

I've actually ordered the Pacific sheath recently. I figured if I get the knife I wouldn't want to ruin the sheath or the knife by weathering it, so I purchased the sheath separately to weather it. All the photos showing the knife from FR, the handles are black so I'm pretty sure they just cast it in resin or rubber anyway for safety reasons considering all the stunts.

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road Costumes Thread

Good point. I'm not sure if it's been covered, but according to the Chris Reeve site, the Pacific is sold with the multicam Combat Master sheath from Spec Ops (available on Amazon) , which comes in 2 sizes, 6 and 8 inch. Is there consensus on Max's sheath color?

The one in the movie is ACU Camo not Multicam but the one sold by Spec-Ops is not quite accurate. The button snap should be on the outside showing, which if you get one from Spec-Ops they have snap button covered by the strap so it's slightly different. I believe the button snap on the outside is specifically made for Chris Reeve only now. I've seen a few older made Pacific knifes that did come with a sheath with the snaps covered but I don't believe they come like that anymore but that style isn't accurate anyway.

Also not really a big deal but some of the Pacific sheaths have the snap and rivets green and some come in black. Some even come with mismatch colors. I think it's just a matter of which production you get but going through pictures for the movie the sheaths they used have green snap buttons but still hard to tell if the rivets are also green or black.

I believe the Spec-Ops sheath here is for an 8" knife which is why it appears slightly longer compared to the one made for Chris Reeve, but you can see the difference between the button snap straps

This is a corrected list of items I've gleaned from this thread so far as of 4/5/2015. Obviously if you're reading this in the future, you should probably read through the thread and see what's changed after this post. In fact, just read through the thread, its really good. I dont take credit for any of the searching, I just like making lists.

This is the list of items I've gleaned from this thread so far. It's not finished, it's not perfect, but it's nice to have. Maybe we can keep an updated one? Feel free to make corrections.

Max Leathers
- South Beach Leather
Max Boots - Vintage Rossi/Soviet Officer lookalikes + Under Armour in 'Timber'
SADF Pattern 83 Battle Jacket - Nutria
Pouches
5.11 Tactical Single Pistol Mag \ Condor MA32 2 x Black + Dark Earth\Tan
Condor MA27 Triple Open Top M4 Mag Pouch - Color?
Condor MA18 - Tan
MA1 Drop Leg Holster - Black
Condor H-Glock
Unknown waffle knit thermal - tan/natural
Other
Paracord slide-knot bracelet, cobra braid - Foliage
Medical tubing, clear - possibly IV, fishtank, nebulizer
Chris Reeve Pacific - Schrade SCHF9 - If going the Schrade route, the CR Pacific is serrated, so don't go with the SCHF9N.
Leg brace - Possibly Lenox Hill Precison Pro Knee Brace - cobbled bits + leather harness
Seat Belt, possible quick release for Shotgun holster?
40mm Grenade ammo
M617 Bren cleaning kit in tin

Beretta, unknown 2x
AK47 2x
Uzi 1x
HK G3 2x
MP4 x4
South Beach Leathers doesn't make accurate jackets. You can try requesting some changes to get them more accurate but from what I've heard its a hit or miss with them. The M4 Mag pouches are 2 black 1 tan. From what arlo said they were the ones that came in strips of 3 then cut to what is seen. The condor pistol holster is most likely from a Beretta considering the shot of him holding the gun in one of the photos while being holstered doesn't look like the back of a Glock at all. Also all of his pistol mags are Beretta style so it would make more sense. The medical tubing from what I've seen and been told by someone in the medical field is from a nebulizer kit. The Schrade would be a cheap alternative for the knife but just want to clarify that its not accurate. I believe there are 3 Beretta mags in total. One in each 5.11 pouch and one in the condor flash bang pouch attached to the leg platform. All seem to be the same mag capacity which I think could be 20. Still not sure. Also I believe there are 2 Uzi mags which go in the tan m4 pouch on the right side. From all the photos I've seen there are no MP4 mags at all visible in the black m4 mags. Neither in any trailer shots either. They're left empty. I think they were only put on the prototype. I'll put up an accurate list once everything is IDed for sure. I don't want to make one then people start purchasing the wrong items. Either way everything I've pointed out has already been said throughout the thread so people can find the correct info if they read through it.

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road Costumes Thread

Sorry about that, I made that list by literally taking the information from previous posts. I'll make clarifications.

The demand for SADF Battle Jackets are gonna go up. I just lost a bidding war for one at $130+ , higher than what they regularly go for

Ouch. That's what I was worried about happening. I got 2 last year and I paid a little less than half that amount for each.

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road Costumes Thread

There is some guesswork being done in some Wasteland Weekend FB groups that Max's mask is scavenged from a gardening tool - a hand fork. I wouldn't doubt it, it looks similar. Maybe a model with replaceable handles?

i am making a mask out of metal, just waiting for more ref pics now.

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road Costumes Thread

I apologize if it has already been brought up, I've already gone through the thread more times than I can count. Max's boots seem to be zippered. Rossi's are not, correct?

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road Costumes Thread

The post on Wasteland Weeknd's Facebook was most likely mine. I am too stubborn to accept I should just make the mask out of EVA foam. My first attempt at fabricating it by hand didn't go well. I am happy to share what I learned and would appreciate any input. Here is what I came up with in round one:

Looks like you're headed in the right direction. The hand fork seems to be made from sheet metal, with a socket meant to fit over a wooden handle. Similar to this.55092_23597.jpg

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road Costumes Thread

Did an early test the other day of materials for the mask max wears in the beginning of the film.
Happy with the materials going to start work on the actual mask over the next few weeks.
This was just a test below

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road Costumes Thread

Genuine SADF M83 battle vests are getting very hard to find.

I posted one outlet that had them for sale for under $100 a while back, but sadly they are now long out of stock (I bought 2 from them).

Here is a new company I found that has genuine M83s in stock:

http://www.wynnchester.co.uk/product/sadf-battle-vest/

The PLUS side - they are genuine and in very good condition
The MINUS side - they are expensive (about $126 USD) and also they are based in the UK

But at this point it could be your best bet! Once the movie comes out I think these will be even more difficult to find and vendors will get wise to what they have and will likely raise prices to prospective cosplayers.

Good luck!!

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road Costumes Thread

Awesome thread, guys! Been visiting the site for a long time, but only recently joined-up ... courtesy of the mighty Mad Max!

Been a devotee since MM2 first came out ... and now is the time to go truly Mad and get in costume.

Just want to say a big thanks to Fabian for the great paracord bracelet! Never leave home without it. So, together with that, I have managed to get the M83 (Nutria) from UK eBay - £60. I'd just missed out on the auction for the only other one on the site. But this one is sweet ... and not quite as smelly as I'd expected. Then again, I used to be in the Royal Marines, so musty military kit is like nectar to me. It is in very good condition. But, as pointed out by MFP Rookie, Wynnchester in the UK can still supply them.

I have three Max leather jackets. The Abbyshot replica with the badges, which always gets comments wherever I go, and two basic biker jackets that I am about to break down and weather for the full-on apocalyptic look. I don't fancy dragging them behind the car, though! My leather trousers are already super-knackered so they will look the part. Having difficulty with the leg-brace ... but u can't really leave it out, can you? I'll work it out. There was an awesome pair of genuine 1979 Rossiter boots on eBay as well, but the price just started to get silly. As we know, Soviet Officer boots can deliver the appropriate look, but they are pretty pricey too. So I think I will simply stick to my engineer/harness boots.

Good call on the Under Armour Timber - I snapped them up from Amazon for £100. They are incredibly comfortable, but I can't help wondering how Max swaps footwear throughout the movie. Plenty of thermal waffle-knit shirts around, and quite easy to dust-up, gouge 'n' tear and distress.

It will be tough getting hold of a Chris Reeve though, but I've already got a few survival blades to choose from.

May 15th can't come soon enough ... and I will be going several times throughout that first day, with various bunches of people ... but I will be going in the full rig-out.

Luvvin' this place, guys, and the passion here is truly infectious and inspirational. Keep it up!

Will post pics once I've shorn my Snake Plissken locks and got my Road Warrior blonde streak back!

Cheers!
