Machined Iron Man Arc Reactor:

Re: Machined Iron Man Arc Reactor: New Pics in Post #55

Hi SupMyNerfHerder,

Great handle by the way.

I trained as a mechanical engineer...but have been working in the movie industry for about 15 years as a prop designer/builder.

As far as the software used for the RT layout...it was all done in 2D...in autocad. All of the fins and plates are either strait plunges through the metal, or counterbores which dont require any real 3D work. The scale and form are not hard to do in the layout drawings, but the fit is sometimes a guessing game if you are introducing paint/plating/etc to the parts.

Hope that helps.

Jason

Hello all,

As far as kits go...

At the moment I am just trying to finish this project off. The RT has sat unfinished for over a year now and the light at the end of the tunnel is in sight. Actually, the light, the plaque, and the glass enclosure are in sight so things are looking up. Displaying a cardboard box full of loose parts just doesnt have the same "wow" effect in most circles.

When my RT and display case are finished up I will be more than happy to look into what it will take to do some part runs.

Take care

Jason

Cave...check
palladium...check

A ton of patience......grrr

I was stalling on the section with the spun copper wire only because I knew 10 of them was going to be a bit of a brute.

The art book illustrated tiny cap screws on each of the windings that I thought was a nice touch so I included them. They are #0 cap screws to get an idea of the size.

i was wondering, what did you use for the clear ring around the transformers are attached? i've been looking everywhere for something, and the only thing i've come across is 1/4inch clear acrylic. any suggestions?

i would also like to know if you have a pdf or rapidshare of all your photos and drawings, as this could substantially help not just me, but literally hundreds of us out there trying to make our own. any help would be greatly appreciated

Is this pepakura ? Just kidding!!!! Just a little newbe humor. I could feel you all getting ready to pelt me with paper clips. All kidding aside, this is a true work of art. It probably goes from being a labor of love to a curse. I can see that the end result is gonna be a great payoff. Nobody can accuse you of taking any shortcuts on this project. I give it two thumbs up! (two red Iron thumbs)

This is a work of art. Mark me as extra interested if you do a run of parts. I'd love to build my own.

and if you don't want to do that, maybe just some measurements for reference points?

Re: Machined Iron Man Arc Reactor: New Pics in Post #55

fantastic work.
The single most annoying piece that has stumped me is the clear ring.
Are you guys pouring your own out of clear resin, or is it a typical object out of something??

Re: Machined Iron Man Arc Reactor: New Pics in Post #55

When I was thinking of scratch-building one, I was going to have it laser cut in clear acrylic or plexi.
