Machined Iron Man Arc Reactor:

Re: Machined Iron Man Arc Reactor: New Post #153

Nice job Cad110

Its great to see the previous groundwork being used.

In an effort to maintain accuracy (and def. not a jab at your work....) the second machined piece from the left in the exploded view should have (x4) 0-80 cap screws on one of the "wings"

Once again...great job.

Take care

Jason

Yes, I saw the difference in screws. I have already changed them on my 3D model and am going to post a photo render of the exploded view tomorrow. Great model to work on though.
Looking for the next movie prop to model up now!

Thought i would put the exploded view image up here for anyone that was interested.
If anyone needs the 3D Cad file please email me. Have also put my latest website advert image up here. The site is currently under major reconstruction, simply had too much work on to get it done recently but would love to hear from anyone that needs 3D modelling done.

I know some of the part names are most likely inaccurate. Could not find further detailed info on this. Would love to see if anyone has drawings on other Arc Reactors and I will add a 3D model to this one!

Cad, that is some fantastic work, and makes it very easy to follow precisely which components go where, as well as their relative dimensions to one another. Based on Jason's original piece, and the extra plans that have been drawn up post-build, It really does seem like a piece that deserves a proper kit developing.

For all who requested, attached you will find a zip file containing the 3D AutoCAD file and the original SketchUp 3D model.

Very impressive!

I was wondering if you could post a schematic of the electronics? The warm up and cool down features look awesome.

Jason - after watching Iron Man 1-3 this weekend I decided to finally build a MK1 RT and found your post during research. Holy crap. I would like to commend you on a really fantastic job and an even greater attitude about sharing with the community. Thank you!

I have a question concerning the 'glass' dome in the center. I have not seen that detail in any of the pix I have collected and wondered where you saw it? The art book?

Finally, I would also like to thank Cad110 for the 3D files. I'm a 3D modeler and my original plan was to build a 3D version and 3D print most of it. Things just got a lot easier. If I can get everything to work out I will be sure to post files and pix.

HI Sean

The glass dome was something that the art of IM 1 had in it. The RT I built was a bit of a hybrid between the real RT that I saw at the auction and the art book illustrations.

I picked up the hemisphere at a local model making supply shop.

Thanks for the compliments...and good luck with your build.

Thanks Jason. I like that you pick and choose elements from the variants which makes for a unique but still technically accurate version.

I'm a polygon modeler and the process of getting the AutoCAD files converted to OBJ is kind of bumpy and messy but I think it will work. A lot of the parts will need additional smoothing done for 3D printing, so that will take a while as well. I have had some issues with the scale transferring correctly so can I verify that the green glass ring up front should be slightly over 3.25" in diameter.

EDIT: just read your previous post where you mention a 3" diameter. I assume this is from the outside of the coils. Will adjust model accordingly.

I love that this project keeps going with a lot of different skills sets and backgrounds adding to the process. If I can pull this off I will be sure to keep with the spirit and post OBJ and STL files.

Great work Mili

The whole point of me starting the thread was to help people out with some info if they wanted to make their own arc.
It's great to see another person taking on the project...it's a fun scratch build.

Keep up the great work

Jason

Hey Jason I just wanted to say that your build is what inspired me to start mine and has been a real treasure trove of information and ideas!

You can find mine here: http://www.therpf.com/f9/schrodinger555s-mk1-arc-reactor-chest-rt-181930/

If you want me to remove the link just let me know!

Thanks man :) I used your files as a starting point and they were amazing!

You're right it definitely is a fun scratch build!

More people need to start trying this version of the arc :p

Also would you mind posting some pictures of the 3D printed arc you made a while ago on the OBJET? I'd be curious to see it closer up :) also to see how light would look in it as it is clear
