I wouldn’t consider this a stunt. But like the bridge scene was probably a roto’d Rylo reveal for a transition or insert shot. It is a reveal scene (Luke’s hand, Luke’s saber)
The scenes to look out for a box are the actual combat sequences, the unrotoscoped blade (which btw looks to be a ‘short’ blade) doesn’t look like it has a control box to me... and that wouldn’t be surprising since historically they have disregarded them for combat stunts as seen since the prequels

If it is indeed a stunt saber made by production, and not simply a ready made hilt that was purchased for the show, it’s possible they manufactured a control box with a lower profile.

Possibly like the stunt Rey (which had that I think?) ; but again for heavy action sequences the preference could be to nix it all together like the mustafar duel stunts... couple possibilities there. Still all conjecture, but I’ll eat whatever you guys want if I’m wrong about the Rylo being used haha

I pulled the pic from SethS ’s post about the clearest stunt saber pics, cropped it and messed with the contrast. Sorry for the confusion.

Both the Anakin saber in ROTS and the Rey stunt sabers in TLJ and TROS had both low-profile box and no box versions. TFA used cloth-covered stunts instead. I was actually going to suggest earlier that the stunt for this may not have a box (or at least a full-height box)... hard to tell from what we have though.

I'm not entirely convinced there is a boxless stunt. Many of the scenes has the actor holding the hilt in a way that has the box is facing outward. In the two handed force push bit, the box would be facing away from the camera. Also I'm not an expert on sword fighting by all means but his grip on the thing doesn't seem natural and suggests there is a cumbersome box in the way of his fingers wrapping around the entire thing.

I thought that. But it might just be tarnished brass from natural ageing
Agreed with tarnished brass...the whole saber has been weathered to some extent as we have seen in the closeups. The weathering shows up really well in the shadowy shots and then of course in open light, makes any metal appear more vibrant. The Yuma shots from ROTj are a perfect example of that.

I’m new to the thread and trying to catch up and follow along with previous posts; is this thread mainly for reference and discussion of the hilt or will this also potentially lead to a physical hilt run?

I love this thread! You guys feel exactly like I do about this saber!

If I’m working on the show, actually working for Lucasfilm/Disney and being paid to make and work on props on the set of the Mandalorian? There is NO WAY I’m going to pass up making Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber! Think about it from the prop team point of view!?

It may very well be a Rylo and that is so amazing I can’t handle it and want to geek out! But it’s also very possible the prop guys made new ones. God knows I WOULD HAVE!!!

Tell me I’m not crazy here?

Ahh man, I thought I was content with just a KR V2 as my Return of the Jedi Luke saber, but after seeing that episode, now I want a Hero. Hopefully the Christmas day special airing on Disney plus will have some good behind the scenes footage of that saber.

I'm right there with you, I have a Starkiller V2 and it's the centerpiece of my collection but I just ordered a Hero myself because of Mando!

Let's hope...for the longest time after ROTJ , when i was old enough to know that their were different versions of Luke's green lightsaber, i convinced myself the sailbarge scene saber(when he was on top of the barge with Leia) was the V3. So i had to have a V3. But then i found out the truth, that it was the Yuma..the Yuma became my favorite. Why? This just enamored me as a kid. Memories. Now with Mando, it made me feel like 1983 all over again...probably going to try to a Mandolukian Hero at some point...lol
