Luke's hero ROTJ lightsaber, what's really there, and what isn't?

I don't think the copper-painted brass stock that was put on after the gray t-rail is the same thing as what was on it before. To me, it would make the most sense that they used brass c-channel.

What about the arrows. How far shoud they stick out from the face of the control box? And, was there a place made for them in the screw on plate? (i.e. drilled, and filled out, or something.) Or, are they just glued on the front?

Great. Finally another good lightsaber thread. Been a while. Lightsabers are what brought me here originally!

I've been wondering that too.

Here's what I've been wondering... What ever happened to the old "Definitive Lightsaber" threads that got archived years ago?? I can't find them in the Archive. There would be "The Definitive Vader ROTJ", "The Definitive Luke ESB", etc. etc. Those were great resources, some of them pages and pages long. Anybody know? Am I not looking hard enough?

I know what your talking about. On some of the older incarnations of these forums I could find them easy. Now I search, and search, and search, find nothing, and make a post about that saber, and some old timer, Says with way too much latitude "This didn't need a new thread, you should read the mile long archived thread" and then they some how pull a lind to it out of thin air. ;( (I'm suprized it hasn't happened yet this time. )

There are still some great defined lightsaber threads from back in the day over at A.S.A.P.

I don't hang out there much anymore, but it's still a good source for some stuff.

Yeah, and the great thing is, many of them were members here, and they would read the mile long threads of here, and then post the findings of there, in one nice, neat, post, on one of the last pages, or there much shorter threads. :) (I don't know if it's case with this saber, but I do know it's true of the some of the vader sabers.)

From what I've been told by people who have seen it on display, the arrows are just simply glued on.

Does that mean they are not LEDs?

Are they just couple mm thick like the ones JDPilot has? I've got a set of those and was thinking about just glueing them on.

Yes, from what I understand, they are not LEDs (which would account for why no one can find ones exactly the correct size). Don't take what I'm saying as gospel. I'm just relaying what I've heard from those who have seen it in person on display. And comparing pics of the real saber to pics of fan mades that have LEDs in them, the colors don't quite match up. LEDs are a little milkier and lighter in color than the arrows on the screen used Hero.

Regardless, I'm still thinking of putting working LEDs in my saber just for the wow factor.

Man, it would be a load off, if they are just glued on, on the real one. I'm doing a screen accurate box (or at least as close as I can get) on my AS, but I'm going to put an idealized one on my JE. (and As box, but with the gray strip under the brass/copper angels, and maybe working LEDs.,) but I was really not wanting to risk messing up the pannel, trying to cut, and file, out little tiny triangles. (well I still may d othat for my idealized box, but at least I may not have to do it twice. :) )

I'm cutting out triangles on an A.S. box for a member here. I'd be happy to do yours too if you decide on the LED route.

Same goes for anyone else.

I may take you up on the offer, but I want to be sure someone can find accurate LEDs. All of the green ones I've seen have been milky.

I had also thought about putting triangle holes in the plate on the side, but not all the way through. It would give the look of holes going all the way through. I need to check how tall JD's triangles are compared to the plate. If they're just a bit taller that may be a good solution.

The plate is 1/16 inch thick (1.5mm), and so are the arrows (well..the green one is a hair thicker at 2mm for some reason), so if you cut the plate, the triangles will sit flush. Pastor Jedi's arrows are the same thickness too.

As far as green LEDs being milky, just dip it into some Tamiya Transparent Green. Voila, perfect shade.

Should they be flush, though? I mean, if they were just glued on, and there were no wholes cut for them, on the real prop, shouldn't they stick out a little tiny bit?

Eather way, I may take you up on your offer as well. I have an ever mounting pile of stuff to do, very little time to do it, and I know this is one of those things I would mess up.

What in the heck. Is that the resin one? Because, in that top pic there seems to be an extra step between the board, and the angles. And the Board looks wider, and the strips look black.

Thanks for sharing the pics, by the why. :)
