My Luke V1 Hero

Hi all, just wanted to show off my Luke Hero build. It's been a journey since I've received DaveP's wonderful hilt. I really was wanting to trick this out and go with a vintage control box card so here's that for ya :). I really like the color, to me it's very accurate. There are a few things I have left to finish up on it such as the Archive style weathering, vintage reveal board, and rusty tri-ring but as for now it's display ready.

I really strive for accuracy with my builds so I spent the extra time to cut down the rails to their accurate lengths as they were in the early archive photos. Along with that I kept some of the silver on the card as it's still seen today. I'm trying to come up with an idea for how to get that dirty look on the gold paint. Anyone have a tip?

Let me know what you think!

I just mixed some brown with a bit of black paint, thinned and brushed it on very lightly here and there, wiped of any heavy smears with a tissue ... oh and the base was Revell Color Enamel Gold mixed with Copper brushed on ... or you could always get some Tamiya Weathering Master Sets and mix colours like gun metal with mud and use the brush that comes with the set to add the mixed colour lightly here and there on your lightsaber :

This is precisely the method I used as well, (thanks to Ryan Clinton for the tip on which ones to use) over top of the Ace Gold.

Looks great. What did you do for the brass rails to get them that color?
Just some light scuffing with 0000 steel wool and some brass aging liquid from Amazon. It actually looks more accurate (to the era of archive photos I was trying to replicate) now that some time has passed and they’ve oxidized naturally on top of that:

Did you use the "brass ager" liquid or something more aggressive like aluminum/brass black?

I have the brass aging liquid and it turns it more reddish than black. Leaves a nice aged look but the original pictures of yours I thought it had a more blackened look.

Brass Ager, specifically this one (not sure it makes any difference)

I will say, I scrubbed the brass with the steel wool way longer than I thought I needed to. Not sure if the protective lacquer could be causing the reddish at all?

That’s the one I have. Whenever I’ve used it I do the same thing you do and then wash it and it turns dark like an old penny. Looks good just never had it turn blackish. It also comes off if I buff it again after.
