Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber

I love what you've done! diid you use the bearing too?

I figured I'd show off my Anakin Starkiller build and share some of my solutions for securing the rod inside the hilt as well as my "mystery chunk".

First, some photos:

Here is my 5/16" bore shaft collar. I wanted to use this because then it holds my saber together mechanically a la a set screw.

Mystery Chunk!

This is a 1/4-20 Square Head Set Screw.

Now for the saber all together!

I painted the saber with Krylon Satin Black and then spent about 3 hours sitting at my computer, looking at photo reference with sand paper and my exacto blade. I tried to match as much of the paint job as seen in the Star Wars Celebration. It should also be noted that I put an 1" D-Ring on my saber as well, because I felt the one that came with it was a little too small.

In case anyone was interested, here are the links to the Shaft Collar and set screw I ordered from McMasterCarr.

And here's the link for the Square Head set screw I used. Its threaded for 1/4-20.

I hope this helps some of you guys!

Just tried the shaft collar myself, one picked up at the hardware store, but unfortunately, my emitter rod wasn't long enough for the screw in the collar to get a good grip without causing it to slant. Wound up just adding a wad of gaffer tape to the bottom to keep it from falling out.

Getting itchy on those stencils... may just do it myself... great work above!

I should be posting a for sale thread for the stencils in the next few days.

Got the clamp in from Trooper_Trent in today and slapped the card in and fastened it to the saber. My lever's yet to arrive so no photos of it until it's complete. However, from the experience of putting this together, I have come to realize how much I love gaffer tape; it's been my solution to all my problems for this saber. To keep the emitter head from falling off: gaffer tape. To keep the emitter from spinning: gaffer tape. To keep the clamp from budging so much: gaffer tape. To keep the card in place: gaffer tape.

I wouldn't say it's as handy in all situations as something like duct tape is but it is damn close.

where did you order your graffers tape?

Gaffer tape can be found in all kinds of music stores. I use it all the time when running sound to tape down cables, mute ringy snare drums, etc. I bet you your local music shop would have a roll. If not, they could order one for you.

YES, FINALLY!

Look what arrived at my doorstep a few minutes ago...excellent work Dan.
CAn´t wait for the stencils :cool

Thx again!!!

Just a suggestion (to anyone with a similar issue), but if you would like to have your clamp stay on snugly without gaffer tape, it is totally possible. Once you get your lever, test tightening it (without the card in) as much as you can while allowing it to still slide over the saber into position with the lever open. If you close the lever and the clamp still moves, open it back up, slide it back off, and tighen it one more turn. If you can still slide it back on, try it again.
If not, that means you need to rotate your square nut 1/2 turn. Take the clamp off, completely unscrew the lever and once it's out, rotate the square nut 180 degrees. Put it back together and try it again. This should get you to that nice half way point where you can still slide it onto the saber, but when you clamp the lever down, it locks into place.

Once that's done, you may now have to sand the edge of your card to get it to slide into the groove that is now thinner than before. I started with the bottom edge of the card with the teeth so as not to cause the board to shift upward hiding any of the details. I just ran it along some sand paper until I could (with some pressure) slide the board in. Then just clamp it down and you should have a perfectly fitting clamp.
