All the Russrep V2s I've seen have the correct number of fins. Did you get yours directly from Russrep or from someone else who said its a Russrep?

Anyone ever put together a good blueprint for this, or care to take on the project and share the results?

Its not difficult to add the extra 'fin', any machine shop can do it. They can easily measure the existing 'fin', make a piece which has 2 fins, make a cut in the middle of the grip area and attach the new section by screwing everything together. A bit of JB weld would make sure nothing will come apart. And if the joints are at the bottom of the 'valley' they'd be invisible, especially after painting.

An extra section with two fins need to be made becasue when you make a cut, part of one fin will be damaged, its just how a lathe machine works. So the shop will need to cut away an entire fin, and put back two.

Problem is, not many machine shop want to do small jobs like this, unless you know them real well...

I recently tried to get a grip section with uneven fins made as a special request for a member here but even my regular machine shop won't take the order.

Eventually I hope to pick up a Russrep V2 but since money is tight, I wanted to make sure I had a good idea of how I want to weather it so I don't screw up a large purchase like that. So I had the Luke FX lightsaber from MR laying around and went to work. Let me know what you guys think and iwhat could be improved. I'm fairly new in the prop collecting world so I could use all the help i can get. Also if anyone has some good reference shots of the weathering around the band on the bottom please let me know. I haven't been able to get that area the way I want.

On another note, any chance we can get a little side discussion on the "conduit," what it is, where it was, and so forth? I REALLY want one on my upcoming V2, because it's in the shot where Vader holds it on Endor, and that's the shot where I first noticed there was a V2 and fell head over heels in love

I believe the "conduit" was a nail because it was done for ANH when the saber was still a full stunt saber with blade. They used the same technique to hold the clamp shut on the Vader ANH.
The band was still loose even then and it spun around like in ROTJ so alignment is up to personal preference.
The cone knob is there to fill in where the red on/off button was in ANH.
The fillister screw (if that is what that is) fills in the hole where the wire came out.
In ANH it originally had a 7 bubble lens in the clamp. It fell out at some point during the duel with Vader. AT this point I have no idea if it was replaced at that time or was left empty for awhile.
I need to do some more research on the ROTJ DVD to confirm a circuit board on possibly chrome tape on the clamp.

The nail wouldn't actually be attached to the saber body in anyway, huh? It just flops around? It looks like it's all over the place in the movie.

Anyone wonder why the heck this mangled, pointy knobbed, loosey-goosey piece of trash was featured so prominently? I mean, it's SO clearly trashed in the movie. Maybe all that EU stuff is crap and Luke bought it at a tag sale.

Aparently the story goes that Mark was supposed to wear the hero lightsaber, but the control box kept banging against his leg (this makes sense if you look at where the tri-ring is on the hero with respect ot the control box). To acomidate Mark, they grabbed a stunt, chopped off the blade and the V2 was born.

And I'm eternally grateful for that. I think the hero is SO clean, plain, and "blah" but the V2 has character and looks like it actually fits in the SW universe. Not too surprising it's my favorite saber after the Kenobi saber.

Yes, I've confirmed for a fact that the "nail" was there for ANH and the other tidbits I mentioned (7 bubble lens, red button, wire hole).
It's been called a nail since there's a round head visible on the other side of the ANH Vader control box - I have not confirmed the head on the ANH stunt/v2 but it makes sense that the same thing was used on both sabers. It's the same guage/thickness of wire/rod on both sabers.
It could have been a pin of some sort - bent and cut at the end. It's hard to tell, but it looks like a nail point.
The threaded sidebar might be missing which could explain the reason for the nail.
I estimate the exposed wire part of the nail is about 3.5cm.

Thanks Lonepigeon...Anyone got some good clear shots of the "conduit?" This stupid detail is one of my fav. things.

As for not using the hero in ROTJ, why not just DRILL A HOLE on the other side and switch the D-ring? While I love the V2, it doesn't make sense that a NEW lightsaber would look like that. Oh well, I'm glad it worked out the way it did.
