A good lot of us used a square head screw to fill in for the mystery chunk. In metrics, if I remember, the size was an M6.

Small update, I've handled this quite a bit after spraying on the bare metal with no sealer. Nothing has peeled off yet, so this may take years

I think part of the paint was disturbed by resting on the rubber bumper I have on it's stand.
