Re: Luke on Tauntaun Stop motion replica? Molds in process

Hi sixxgunn, yes it was based on the original sculpt, I could understand your concern if it was an original sculpt but thankfully its a reproduction of the original. Dont forget it's the SW universe not a horse or real life animal, it also has four nostrels!

Thx Guy,
Thats all i wanted to know.... :thumbsup
I realize its not real world, but my Sculpt Prof. would be on me if he saw a sculpt like that.:lol

great job, keep it up.

Re: Luke on Tauntaun Stop motion replica? Molds in process

No problem, I guess you should introduce your prof to Phil Tippett, maybe he could up his game?

Don't forget this is just to add a hint of muscle form under the fur, the sculpt was never ment to be displayed naked but I think you'll agree Jim's sculpt is pretty damn close to the original, anatomically correct or not?

If you have any sculpts you've done your self please feel free to post pics.

Bionic Tauntaun's here we come!!! Jim you are a legend my friend, count that pint on me mate.

I am very happy to announce the mold is done it came out perfect & that means its full steam ahead with phase 2 of 999, better make that 2 pints mate.
Still a few mods to be done to the armature but only slight adjustments & then the first weird science type cry of "its alive" will be upon us. Sadly its not Kelly LeBrock but hey its the next best thing. I may be a bit giddy right now Sorry!!!!

"I thought they smelled bad on the outside!"

You could use those remnants to make a diorama of the scene where Han cuts the tauntaun open. :lol

This is really fantastic to see coming together! I can't wait to see the first casting!

Thanks for sharing with us!

Wow, Guy. You should be very proud of that. This has to be one of the most accurate SS builds I have seen.

Brad, I am extremely proud, more so that I bothered to pursue this & get it off the ground. Jim has been amazing through out this project & god knows how many hours he's put in already. All the remaining materials are on order including the fur pelts, these will be rubberized just like the original to enable it to stretch & return to form. We're still waiting on the Luke armature so that sculpt can get under way.

I feel now is a good time to let people know that we hope to do a small run of these, quite a few people have already shown great interest & it will be a very small run of around 10 -15 at most. Depending on how many people confirm & also how well the molds last, its still a few months away before the first is completed but between now & then would be a good time to sign up so to speak as at the moment if all interested people do decide to go ahead it would only leave 3 places open. If you have already contacted me then your on the list. Price is still to be decided & we'll no more as the first is completed. Its also looking like a 50% deposit would be needed for each order to cover material's etc. This is all very up in the air still & nothing will happen till we have seen a finished article but from what we have seen I doubt it will be anything less than stunning.
If anyone is interest please PM me, if you already have but know you wont be able to order then please let me know so I can get an accurate idea of numbers.

An amazing opportunity to own something that may never be done again Guy.
Im sure many have "thought" of this project, but lack the talent and resources to pull it off, you have really stuck at it and chased it down, when is the first pull due Guy?

Thanks Lee, I'm hoping it will happen next week as there is only a few minor adjustment needed to the armature, hopefully. There still is a long way to go but I cant see how it could be a let down in anyway judging by the workmanship so far. I think if anyone tried to tackle his again the only way to improve it would be a more articulate armature & to take actual measurements from the original prop! Although possible I very much doubt it would happen :confused. I do know it will be expensive & would love for people to have the opportunity to own such a unique replica, thats kina why I'm saying it now, so people have a chance to budget if they really want one. I'll be chatting with Jim later tonight so should be able to work out a few more details.

Its got to be worth a Kidney or 2 :lol

Re: Luke on Tauntaun Stop motion replica? Mold completed

No real update as yet but things are in motion, Luke lands around Thursday & hopefully it will about 2 weeks before the sculpt is done & ready for the molds to be made. There are so many small things to get done soon but this does mean pics will be coming my way more frequently. Just so you know a rough Idea of what is still to be done

Sculpting the Luke & Making the molds
Replacing the hide on the Fur pelts with Rubber/Latex
Sculpting the saddle parts & saber, goggles etc
Fitting Fur to the Taun, adding ears n claws
Fabricating the saddle

Not an easy task as you can imagine!
