No, the leads are just pieces of white mains flex painted yellow and attached to the caps from the sauce dispensers.
Yes, the box really doesn't stand up to close examination. There are more out there that are closer. It's the luck of the draw what you can find at the right price if you can't afford the time to search or the budget for a really accurate one.if we could find a more accurate box then it would be awesome
Yes, the electronics for the bike light were easily powerful enough to drive three LEDs at a time instead of the one it was meant for.did one bike lamp do all 3 legs on the flux?
Best of luck, I look forward to seeing your results. I'm very happy this thread has helped and inspired people! Thanks for all your help, this forum truly inspires me
omg! I want one!! where can I get this neon wire and how to I make this light upwell, i'm still waiting upon parts i've ordered from the uk (ketchup bottles) so while im waiting i decided that i would go ahead and build myself a steampunk flux capacitor, the thing i really like about steampunk is not only is it cool looking but you cant really get it wrong, i mean its something you build in the style of something else. I saw someone using this flexible neon wire and thought it would be perfect and cheap alternative to plasma tubes.
So here it is:

you can read more on my blog site: my untempered schism: Steampunk flux capacitor
but all in all the build probably cost me about $20/$25 in total so i think that counts as a budget build...

Very Much so, Thank you and once again very amazing! you really did so brilliant art here! The wire is called EL Wire, I got it on eBay (there maybe easy or cheaper places) the one I got was for lighting up cables in your PC the auction has finished now but you can get an idea from this: eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices
as for the rest, the Clock I managed to pick up at a thrift store it was about $7 after that it was just a case of using some brass caps from Home depot and some plastic tubes. Theres also a small crystal cupboard knob in the middle, the clock face was the original I just cut it down and moved it about. Most of its pretty simple just cosmetics, the coloured wires are more of the PC cable.
Because its a PC cable I knew it was 5v so I just used an old 5v phone charger to power it from the mains.
heres a battery operated version of the EL Wire: 3ft Flexible Neon Light Glow EL Wire Rope Tube Car Party Bar 1M+Driver L-blue | eBay looks good and its cheap
hope that helps

Man, I am budget king. I just don't have the money to invest in 100% accurate builds. So projects like this are the best! Great job!!!! Do you have build photos?
