lost boys MARKO jacket replica!

While I’ve been scouring the internet for pieces for this jacket, I found these, a vintage uncut sheet of the original Anarchy and Skull patches. Thought people might like to check them out. I’ve seen a few skulls on the thread but they were missing some of the details. Says where they were originally sold as well

I've figured out a way to make the right shoulder look accurate. It might look a little wonky in the pics because it's not all sewn on yet, but to me, it gives the impression/illusion that the piece of tapestry going down beside Snake Lady was cut from that top shoulder piece of the matador. So I took that piece and a small piece of boarder to match the colors and sewed them together at an angle.

That looks pretty nifty! I'm digging it!

Got a bunch of the patches in, just on the lookout for the others. I'm sure it's going to be a long process which I'm fine with. I enjoy the detective work involved in trying to track down all the pieces for these.

I tracked down some gloves that look like a match, although I'm sure there are a million that would fall in that category. These have the same type of buckle though and the little pointed ends on the straps from the gif. The placement of where the strap begins and is sewn also looks to be in the same spot and the seams run vertical on the top of the glove which looks right based on the very few and unclear pictures that there are. They might seem a little wrinkly in the photo but once I've got them on they look perfect, just need to be roughed up a bit. Should be perfect for a costume and for the display I'm working on.

SPFXMUA make-up studio reached out to me for some help with their Lost Boys costumes and I was able to help them out with information, and also locating some of the harder to find parts on Paul's jacket. The pictures unfortunately focus more on the make-up because that's what they do rather than the costumes. I asked them for some better pictures of the costumes and they are coming soon. Here are a few for now.

Been meaning to post for a while but when I get spare time I've got some theories on Dwaynes Lesco Leathers jacket but I was able to locate Pauls batwing draw pulls. They are 58mm across and I've put in the medallions as a scale. I also posted about Markos squid lure a while back. Managed to get it finally after it bounced from my street (with address incorrect? Go figure) back to US and held up in customs for long periods of time both ways only to have the colour incorrect so if anyone is sees a potential lure double check the colouring because of lighting (unfortunately I had a seller who wasn't willing to help so had to purchase the item). Markos jacket can be quite expensive for anyone outside of the US since a lot of items I've purchased are from there haha. The lure does have parts that are base blue and some orange with black over it.

Are your Paul batwing pulls steel or brass?

Here's a Lesco Leathers motorcycle jacket for a decent "buy it now" price, and they're open to offers. It's not mine, and I don't know the person. It's a 44 which is if I'm not mistaken right between a large and extra large. It's not an exact match to the movie used one, but very close IMO.

The draw pulls are brass.

Here are my theories about Dwaynes jackets. I originally always looked up to this jacket of Billys and got one made to wear at casual events, it was up until the past few years when more information came to light to start homing in on a more screen-accurate one. The one below I think is the Lesco Leathers.

The-Lost-Boys-Dwyane-s-Leather-Jacket-1.jpg

I've been looking for months at the jacket that was on Prop store and later the brand got confirmed as Lesco leathers. There are tons of variations out there so whenever I saw a jacket and it didn't have the 'oval' belt buckle or the pocket studs or the side belts I just left it because most are square buckles with completely wrapped belt and no studs. It was only until my idiot self looked in detail at the jacket that I found there was a single centre belt holder that is removed. This jacket is used in the flying scenes and stereo scene so my theory was they ripped the back to put on a harness so the rear belt had to come out which is why its missing and they sewed either a new belt to the sides or split the existing (though on another post in Facebook? someone said this jacket get into an accident which is why it was ripped but I don't think its true). See below for the belt theory.

jacket2b.JPG

In this scene, the arrow doesn't penetrate the Lesco leathers but on another shot the arrow looks glued onto it hence there isn't holes on the Prop store jacket.

jacket1.JPG

The oval belt buckles I've seen for these seem to be snapbacks. Now, on searching for the jacket on a listing it was said that the same factory that made Schott did Lesco leathers so these 'perfecto' style jackets have similarities but there so far 3 brands have been confirmed which is Schott, Californian and Lesco Leathers. In the promo and the majority of the film you see Billy wearing the Californian one which in the design has them 6 studs around each pocket. It leads me to assume they got a Schott and Lesco Leather jacket and modified them to look like the Californian to replicate the studs (see my Lesco jacket).

In another scene, the Californian looks like it appears again because it has a bottom belt line divider but these studs are different.

There is an Instagram post that said the jacket in the photo is screen used and I believe it's from the makeup effects owner of Pauls's original jacket. If this is correct, Billy Wirth has said he owns one of the jackets and also his girlfriend's sister which would mean all 6 jackets (if they was 6 made) are confirmed but these 3 brands are unknown. It could be one of them unknown jackets that are used in the screenshot above.

So since the Lesco Leathers has more information I figured its best to replicate that out of all the jackets which I purchased this one. I can't find the original listing images but it was taken on a half-bust mannequin and it has characteristics of the Prop store jacket, mainly that half shaped hour glass by the waist, the cuffs (not completely squared but has a bit of a wave profile) and the single centred belt holder but it didn't come with a belt but funny how it has a bit of fabric on its shoulder, kind of resembles Markos squid lures.

So in my jacket the logo is silver (I have 2 jackets of lesco leathers, the other is gold but it doesn't show as well here) and there are studs on the shoulders and cuffs to reinforce glued-in leather which seems to be horsehide as its quite thick, kind of feels like cardboard too. I thought that Silver Logos would be due to silver parts like the zippers and buttons and gold because of brass parts.

In the Propstore one (owned by Sean) it doesn't have zippers in the cuffs so it looks like they have been removed and have a central joint in the cuffs. It also has silver shoulder buttons but black pocket buttons so the theory of silver/gold logo is unknown. My jacket isn't 100% like the Propstore but with a few modifications, it could be extremely similar. It is also a Medium which I believe Billy is? The main zipper I find on these jackets are 'Serval' and its for heavy duty, on the Prostore is a YKK. I think it helps with the period of the jackets.

Here is another Lesco Leathers that got recently purchased (I don't own it) but it shows a belt that seems to be in 3 pieces.

That's as far as I've got with Billys jackets, my next moves are to replicate it to the Propstore a little more closely and find a buckle that matches. Hope this has shed some light on the jackets.

I don't think they replaced the belt itself on the Lesco, but the buckle looks to have been replaced at some point with a buckle from a pants belt. The other two known makers are California Sportswear (which I believe but don't have verifiable proof, just my opinion was the Hero), and the "Death by stereo jacket" which is a Schott Perfecto. I have never seen any jacket with the rivet pattern other than the California Sportswear and it is my belief that the other jackets had the rivets added for continuity. No Schott or Lesco came "factory" with those rivets.

To do the leopard I recommend drawing a pattern and making a stencil for the outline first on paper. You can use transfer paper to put the details on the jacket. The style is old skool tattoo flash, with what looks to me Chinese influence. I've seen some people make the leopard look more realistic, and as beautiful as it is, it's not movie accurate. It's a very simplistic style. It appears to me that they used a stencil for the body and used either spray paint or an airbrush for the yellow, the detail are hand painted and the spots are airbrushed. The paint is flat or gloss enamel NOT acrylic.

These two jackets don't look like the same jacket to me. Ones weathered, and ones not. Also, one appears to have brass zippers and snaps, and the other is nickel plated. I'm not saying the "Below the Boardwalk" jacket isn't screen used, I'm just saying they don't look the same to me. That's just my opinion though.

I will be replacing my nickel plated snaps with chemically aged brass and weather the zippers with sandpaper and flat enamel paint (black, brown, grey). You can antique the brass with vinegar and ammonia (separately!). First rub off the shine with very fine steel wool. Then take something like a Tupperware container that can be sealed and a small cup or bowl that will fit inside. Put the cup or bowl upside down to make like a little shelf for the brass pieces. You don't want the pieces to touch the liquid, the "vapors" do the work. Note: the vinegar and ammonia are two totally SEPARATE processes. The vinegar gives more of a blue/green/red corrosion and the ammonia gives a brown/green effect. The longer you leave them in there with the vapors, the more of an aged look you'll achieve. Here's a good video on YouTube.

I thought that the lesco leathers would of been a normal leather pants belt as it seems out of place being quite big.

You are correct, they aren't the same jacket, I was referring to how there maybe 2 Californians style used because of the studs sizing and how there are 3 other jackets that we don't know the brand of and its likely one owned by Billy, even the instagram boardwalk one isn't in these images. If you see the promo and the other scene the jackets look the same due to the line that is just above the belt, the lesco leathers or the schott don't have this but the Californian does but the 2 studs don't match up which is why I think it's Billy's personal jacket.

sketch-1709536603879.jpg
sketch-1709536611938.jpg

There are quite a few other brands of jackets that have these studs/rivets so if one was to reverse image search and see one they may assume that lesco leathers and schott did a variation of this style too such as Wilson, averix and a few more.
