Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, The

i am a newbie, and dont know a thing about printing, map making or map weathering... :D

but here is my $.02

it seems that printed on plain paper in black is crazy cheap...and i guess you could weather it yourself...and for $6 each you could buy a few and play around, which may appeal to alot of people (including me)

but...

it sure would be nice to have one of these badboys in brown ink on parchment or some cool cloth with that "fresh outa da shire" look really done up right...in which case upwards of $100 would be worth it to some people (including me)

maybe there is a market for both maps?

Someone needs to make these happen as Adam's maps look amazing when printed on the right paper, aged and framed nicely...

I asked the same question -- but nobody answered. I assume it's on television, and as I haven't had broadcast or cable in forever . . .

I'm hurt Juno. I had answered you back on post 67

I have no idea who you are or where you come from, but please make more maps.

Great work.

Adam is the wackier of the two Special Effects Experts on Mythbusters, also a former ILM employee.

If you haven't seen the show, it's fun. :thumbsup

Thanks Adam.

Let Kari know we think she's great. :love

Wow "at cost" printing prices ranging from $6 to $125 bucks.
That wide possible range is why, when I don't know what the price of a "at cost" product is, I always agree with the condition "depending on price".
Glad to see these are still being made, and that people seem to have options based on the amount of money they want to spend. :D

nah, local sign making place. i hate kinkos. its a long drive to one, and the last time i was at one i didnt have a wonderous joyful time. :angry :angry :angry

the expensive one for me was just laser printed with brown ink. i think that was the main diff in price. yours might be cheaper route because its not a laser printer (ink for them is hellaspensive). im not sure what the solvent whatsis ink process is, but if it looks cool, it looks cool :). i might see if they can print up a superman logo for me, ive been meaning to get a couple done for a background of a prop i made a while back.

i just started an interest thread in the JY to get a list going for the cheapy 6$ route. its kinda cool, we have runs for every sized budget on the board :lol.

Juno, your project sounds interesting (and affordable) as well. With the process you're using, will the ink run if weathered with coffee/tea?

When/if you start a run, please keep me in mind (as I don't check the JY all that often).

Thanks,
Fred

I will no longer be doing a run of these.

It's not so much the drama as I haven't gotten back the proof yet, and the more I think about it, the more I realize it is a whole lot more work than I want to undertake at the moment. Since Hydin has been kind enough to do his run, I think anyone who wants a large copy of the map can get one.

I will post pics of the demo map when it gets back from the printer -- hopefully it will turn out.

I have popcorn going in the microwave right now, guys. Feel free to swing by and watch with me.

Adam, I've never been much of a LOTR fan, but that map is simply stunning.

*edit - was forwarded a copy of the map, thanks very much to the folks that got in touch with me :)

Great map Adam. Many thanks. Mythbusters rock by the way. :thumbsup

Thanks also to Gytheran for providing a download when Adam ran out of bandwidth on mac.com. :)

a new site for the big downloads would be nice

I have the 15MB file on my server now:

(right click/"save as" if you don't want it to possibly crash your browser)

Thanks again to Adam for making it available to us. I'm going to go visit my local Postal Annex today and see how many millions of dollars they want for the use of their 48" plotter. :)

Many thanks Pilot for the second chance. Wait 'till my kids see this lying around :lol

Great work, Adam. So you actually do MOST of your own stunts :rolleyes

Greetings to the whole MB staff and crew - it's my 14 year-old daughter's fav.

What's the method for mounting one of these things to a solid, lacquered piece of pine? I've seen posters and prints done this way in lieu of framing them, and I think this would be the perfect print to do it with.
