Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, The

To continue with the actual thread at hand, the disk should be on it's way to me soon. While I normally work with the canvas stuff, I'm quite happy to investigate an alternative paper print...I know people in the printing industry and should be able to get something for a decent price.

Can I ask...is the whole black ink/brown ink deal the difference between a black and white map, or a real, full colour map? I'm not sure I understood the whole deal with that one...

I figured it just meant doing the lines in brown as opposed to black:

I received my disk today but I can not read it, apparently my DVD drive died, I hardly every use it so I didn't know.

I have finalized the deal with the printer and I can get 20 copies on archival paper printed with brown archival ink for around $100 per print.

I also have to pay a $125 set up fee and for some proofs.

I'm sure I will be able to do the run for around $125 shipped and that includes all the fees, the shipping tubes and the postage.

Right now I am waiting for some samples they sent me.

I am also looking for a printer willing to do the job for less but most that I have talked to are in the $80 price range for an inferior product.

The place I'm using, specializes in printing artwork and it's meant to last a life time.

Once I see the sample I will make a decision and post a new thread in the JY.

Since there will only be 20 available I will initially restrict each person to one map, unless the run isn't full.

Man, I just have to say how astonished I am by the attention to detail and the scholarship that went into this map. What a labor of love. This thing shows the most obscure places named in the text but never included on a comprehensive map before. I mean, I can actually find Rhosgobel, home of Radaghast the Brown. Holy crap. Thank you so much, Adam. Only on the RPF could such an act of generosity spiral into a flame war.

But, I'm curious... Did you name a mountain for yourself up where the Angmar range meets the Grey Mtns?

I got these great looking hand-drawn maps from gnrlotto. I'm thinking about changing asavage's map to have some bits o' color.

Now you are just trying to show off. :D

Oh, but wait -- there's more.

Got my print back today. It was left untrimmed so I could tear the edges. The paper had a smooth vinyl / leather-esque feel to it. I played around with the trimmings and determined that it even crinkled like leather. I'm relatively happy with it -- but if I had to do it over again I'd probably print it in black since the weathering so dark.

[EDIT] I decided to get rid of this one and do one in black -- care to pick it up, it's in the junkyard.

Here it is in unweathered glory:

I'm a little confused - are there any runs being offered other than the $6 cheapie and the $125 framed? I see the $6 one in the JY, but no others...

Wow, I'd always heard that "asavage" was a member here, but I thought it was just a myth. Busted.

Wait, if he is a member like you thought, isn't that then confirmed?

Okay, here is my gift to you.

He may quote you a little more on the print -- I think I got a bit of a break in the cost (but it wasn't much of one).

Contact Jeff Cline at Fastsigns (513) 396-7446. He has the high-res as a .tiff in both black and brown.

He said he would arrange shipping, etc.

Have I told you that I love you lately?

This guy is going to get SWAMPED.....

:D That's why I don't think the price will be exactly $31.95. But I'm sure it won't be more.
