Long Running WIP

no the quills are actually just toothpicks I used to get the spacing, and the small horns are removeable and I plan to use glued on resin horns on the final mask. Teeth will also be resin after the fact.

to answer a couple of PMs I've recieved, no I haven't given up on this. Work has been crazy and I've had to travel scheduled away from home for most of the weekdays this month. However, here's my latest pictures. I think I'm at the 95% completion mark and am just working on the aging a bit more. Going to smooth the age lines a little more and add a bit more texture to the back. I know most of it is covered by the dreads, but It's bugging me. I'm not sure I like the appearance from the back. Again the front view gives a very "squatty" appreance, but I think it's the angle I'm taking the picture.

As always comments/suggestions are welcomed. Next step makeing a mold.....

I think it looks good.
It might be the nose that bugs you, maybe make it more vertical on the half of it and then spread it out to the teeth... I dont know. :S

As soon as I work up the nerve to attempt a mold...... I've gotten a lot of over the phone help from Seahunter and Mannowar, but I just haven't jumped in and tried as yet..... SOon guys - - very soon - - I promise. This is NOT to say the mold turns out, and that is what concerns me the most. Screwing up the mold and losing the sculpt - - I lose sleep just thinking about it.

Looks real good so far. Really inspires me to try a full face mask instead of my half mask. Good luck on the mold!

First off - I'd like to thank you all for the kind words and the PMs of encouragement. Ok here it goes, I'm moving forward. Here's where Iintend the seam to be, and on another recommendation, I may end up making this a 3 part mold with a seam down the center of the back. Probably right down where the split would go.

From what I've read to keep the seams at a minimum. I've gone around where the cards are inserted and ensured I have a nice clean line. Hopefully this will help.

However, I do have a couple of questions for those more experienced....

1. Do I mold the front or back first??

2. how do I support the overall mold either way, as to not mess up the part NOT being molded. i.e. if I do the front first, obviously is must lay on the back. How do I support it without screwing up the detail on the back?

3. Once I finish the first side (front or back) do I then remove the cards and pour the opposite side directly to the completed mold side? did that make sense?? AND if I do that - what do I put on the plaster'd side to keep the fresh plaster from binding?? saran wrap? vaseline?? some other release agent to keep the two from becoming one...

4. Lastly, There was a thread by someone I believe from Brazil on the steps he followed to mold his mask.... any help would be appreciated. and YES i tried using the search feature with no luck.

thanks for any advice/help.

Shifting gears from the sculpting for a moment...

I've been gathering parts for my intial suit. My intentions are to have a decent suit available for Comic Con09, then continue to sculpt personalized pieces to slowly replace as done. Here's a shot of the parts I've accumulated since January. I've started cleaning seams.... priming... and slowly start painting parts. Obviously, the blade gauntlet was first. I'm going with a gold and silver combination for all pieces. Hey, he's an elder, been around a long time.... he can afford some ornate-ness to his stuff.

I want to thank a few folks that have helped me along so far.

Hddog - - my nephew. who brought the CC08 video to our Thanksgiving dinner and immediately got me hooked. ALthough I thank him, I'm not sure his Aunt Catheren is too happy about this addiction he has exposed me too.

Pdisc - for helping me with gathering parts.

Mannowar - for the sculpting advice... My elder head and hands, and the incredible feet.

Bambooie - for the dreads

More to follow as progress continues....

Enjoy.
