Lightsaber builds: V2, V3, Obi Stunt, Vader ROTJ & Technical Manual Saber

Re: V2, V3 & ANH Obi Stunt Lightsaber builds

My Square set screws arrived yesterday from PoopaPapaPalps so I decided tonight that it was time to man up & drill a whacking great hole in the pommel of my expensive new lightsaber :lol

I started by drilling a small hole by hand & then got my drill & started using increasingly larger bits until it was the right size

I screwed in the set screw with the help of some pliers

it's not perfectly straight as I had to just hold the pommel in place & drill through as straight as I could

I'm happy enough & im not gonna mess with it now

Looks great! A bit too clean for my tastes but great none the less!

looks great! i think im going to tackle doing this. i just need to do some more research and make sure i drill the hole in the correct location

:lol I hear ya, I think it needs a few more knocks & dings, I'm working myself up to it

I had a good look at the available pictures before drilling (but in the end I basically just eyeballed it) even if I try to be precise when it comes to me drilling it never works out quite that way :lol

Looks great. And nice drilling. :thumbsup

I'm thinking about doing this many times and I'm not sure yet. The drill will slip and leave a deep scratch on the pommel for sure.

I literally drilled mine in the most amateurish way possible, I carefully started a small pilot hole with a hand drill (basically drill bit in a screwdriver handle) once I was down a few mm I went out to the garage, put the pommel on a towel on a stool & just held it in place as best I could as I drilled & kept increasing the bit size until the set screw fit :lol

Now, is it me, or it the pommel different in this shot? It looks more like an Ep1 OB1 pommel. Also, there appears to be a propeller under the emitter to. Sorry if these things have been mentioned before...

Ive always thought the pommel looks weird in this pic but it may be a trick of the light & angle, as Markus says it is Alec Guinness's finger passing under the neck but it does look like there is something crossing over the neck (maybe a wire)? So hard to see on these blurry pics

OK, thanks for the reply, that clears the emitter up.

Still not 100% convinced about the pommel though....

Its my understanding that this was most likely the Shared Stunt or something. The V2 had a thick black wire not this white one. That would also explain the hole in the shared stunts windvane if that really is more wire.

Re: V2, V3 & ANH Obi Stunt Lightsaber builds

Decided to take some picture of my Russrep alongside its replacement just for posterity & comparison before it gets stripped :lol

I still really like the Russrep despite its inaccuracies & I love how it all screws together

Re: V2, V3 & ANH Obi Stunt Lightsaber builds

& after its date with a bottle of acetone :lol

I'm amazed how well it's cleaned up & how fast the acetone stripped it just wiping with kitchen roll

my plan is to give it a very light sanding & wire wool before I repaint just to get out some scratches from my original weathering

I'm going to try & drill some holes for the Romans transistors in the clamp spacer & maybe try to round off the back of the booster section slightly

my plan is now to paint as a ANH Obi Stunt

Re: V2, V3 & ANH Obi Stunt Lightsaber builds

I've been trying to figure out the clamp position relative to the red button on the V2/Obi Stunt picture

(the red button is currently just a kebab skewer coloured in with red pen :lol)

try ray as I might I cannot get quite the right angle for the picture

I'm going slightly idealised as I want to add the obi transistors as seen in some pictures, to do this I need to drill in to the clamp spacer for them to screw in to, which means the clamp will be fixed in place

I'm assuming the red button is in the cone hole in the booster & the wire comes out of the hole for the "mystery chunk" in the pommel

problem with using the Russrep is that the pommel & booster are one part So the holes & D-Ring positions are fixed (& not the same as the picture :facepalm) so my wire will need to come from under the red button

im guessing the pommel may be slightly rotated in the picture from where we usually see it in the ROTJ pictures but I'm not sure

Re: V2, V3 & ANH Obi Stunt Lightsaber builds

Decided just to go for it with the Transistors

I figured that on the original prop from what we know the Emmiter, pommel & clamp all moved so why worry to much about the position in one particular picture :lol

i drilled & tapped holes in a couple of different positions on the clamp spacer for the transistors to screw into to give myself some options on the position, I made sure that I could also return it to the ROTJ V2 set up or no transistor set up without the holes showing.

Ive given the whole saber a light sanding & tried to slightly round off the back edge of the booster

beyond this I'm not going to leave the Russrep as is regards it's inaccuracies, as I've said this will be a slightly idealised version

Re: V2, V3 & ANH Obi Stunt Lightsaber builds

romans transistors look amazing! is it possible to remove the washers from them? or are they machined in 1 piece?

they're 2 pieces so you can have them with or without the washer & the transistor part is threaded on the back :)
