Licensed Pulse Rifle pre-order

The company responce made my mind up for me, wouldnt touch one of these with a ten foot droopy pole with electrical issues and hairs in its paintjob
Company policy seems to be, most are fine, stuff the rest.

I read two things into that policy:

1. A replica prop that has a chance of going up in value as a good portion might get scrapped.

2. Scratch and dent sale at HCG!

Fellas, please forgive the slight injection of the following passage. In many ways it can relate to this replica when, history is given the opportunity to repeat itself. Enjoy.

Fifty years after its spectacular failure, Edsel has become a highly collectible item amongst vintage car hobbyists. Fewer than 6,000 Edsels survive and are considered collectors’ items. A mint 1958 Citation convertible sometimes sells for over $100,000,[8] while rare models, like the 1960 convertible, may bring up to $200,000.

While the design was considered "ugly" fifty years ago, many other car manufacturers, such as Pontiac and Alfa Romeo, have employed similar vertical grilles successfully in their car designs. Many of the Edsel's features, such as transmission lock on ignition, self-adjusting brakes, gear selection by steering wheel buttons, etc., which were considered "too impractical" in the late 1950s, are now standard features of sports cars.

Just a little something to think about. I'm glad to have received mine when I did. :)

Did you just compare a HCG PR to an Edsel? :lol

I had really high hopes for this piece and am really saddened to hear the negative things said about it. I am also VERY happy that I canceled my order when I did.

May I be alive long enough for someone else to get the Aliens license and try it again. Icons had it, HCG has it, maybe someone else will get it.

DEATH TO HCG! DEATH TO H... uhhhh... what? You fixed it with virtually no effort on your part by turning it upside down... heating it up... letting it cool... but... but... what will we do with all these pitchforks and torches... Thanks a lot. Do you know how much effort it takes to get a lych mob whipped into shape just to have its righteous anger deflated so easily? You sir, are a stick-in-the-mud! :lol:lol:lol

In all seriousness, if this truly is a fix, that is just AWESOME!!!
You're KIDDING me, right? Are you for real? I, sir, do not have a sunny balcony where I can leave my PR unattended for God knows how many hours. And if a neighbor of mine saw it leaning outside my apartment in the sun, guess what? He'll either steal it or call the police - UNACCEPTABLE! And what if I leave it out in the sun too long? Who's to say what other damage might be done? Do I now have to call all my friends with sunny balconies and ask them to babysit my PR or camp out there for 5 hours with an egg timer? Get real... :rolleyes

Also, this "fix" does not even begin to address all the other defects and problems I found in mine.

I will take Alexandra's offer to exchange mine in a couple of months, but if the next one has a lopsided SPAS frame, wonky SPAS pump, and any droopage whatsoever, I'm going for a full refund.

This whole experience has left a sour taste in my mouth. I will not be ordering any more replicas from HCG.

D

P.S. Thanks, Art, for mocking those of us who did not get a PERFECT PR like yours. I'd be more than happy to swap with you, and you can try the "Sunny Side Up" solution.

Nobody forced you to order one sight unseen. I waited until I saw what the final product looked like and I am glad I did.

What a BS comment. In this hobby that really doesn't work. By the time you see a final product they are sold out and you have to pay big bucks to get one. Case in point EFX tricorder. By the time we were sure it was a winner it was double the price. Glad i preordered sight unseen.
I waited until the prototype PR photos were posted here before i ordered one and it makes no difference. The final product is still a disappointment and doesn't compare to the proto. DarthDarins PR is a complete mess and should be an embaressment to HCG.

I'd like to add. What kind of company doesn't make any extra pieces so they can take care of returns? What a crock.

But they are sold out, right? The eternal dilemma of the pre-order.

I wonder what will happen to any returns?

Those shrouds are still gonna be pretty desirable.

I'm comparing it to a ridiculously rare, manufactured item that was prematurely shoved back into further rarity for whatever reason.

Good point. You may be right. But, the info available to me indicates that, Icons license was 'pending' for the pulsey. It never actually came to fruition. If I am incorrect on this, I would appreciate the better info. ;) But yeah, I do agree with you in the hopes that we are both around long enough to see another.

Not entirely true. They are on eBay right now with free shipping and no sales tax. I would have to pay both sales tax AND shipping from HCG directly so I can get one for less than I would have if I had kept my preorder.

Though by the time it's finally released, I'll care about it even less than I do now. I wanted an Icons but couldn't afford it then. I preordered this the day it was announced then waited for for over a year and lost interest after 10 months. IF and WHEN another licensee releases one, I hope they learn from past mistakes and don't even announce an item until the R&D is complete and the manufacturing has begun and certainly don't start taking preorders until the item is ready to go.

Even better would be don't announce it until it's ready to go...

I don't get it...
They claim to be sold out but still selling them on Ebay??
It also looks like thier Ebay auction has not been updated at all - still says "5 weeks" for pre-order delivery.
I talked to a rep from HCG ONE DAY prior to the 'wait list' being put on the BB PR....he told me they had "quite a few" left and would be a few weeks before they would sell out....so I guess someone came and bought possibly several hundred of them??
Something is fishy here....
I am willing to bet there are a lot of HCG higher-ups that are sweating with thier tail between thier legs right now trying to figure out what the heck to do with all the cancelled/returned PRs.

Considering your utter distaste for this product, I am wondering why you are accepting an exchange. It seems clear from your posts (all except 2 of which have been in this thread) that you have nothing but disdain for HCG's execution of this piece and it almost feels like you are just setting yourself up for another round of disappointment if you think every complaint you have voiced is going to be corrected on the exchange. While I was lucky to get a PR with a straight barrel, some of the other concerns you voice ARE present on my rifle... so why not just save yourself the time and go ahead and accept the refund? Just curious why you want to torture yourself.

If your sensitivities are so delicate, and you can't take a little ribbing, I wonder how well you will fair in this community where there is a LOT of ribbing as well as a lot of self-deprecating humor.

I actually wouldn't have an issue trading but I have already "ruined" my "collectible" if you will check the other thread on this...

HCG are actually not in California so we don't have to pay sales tax on it. That is one of the reasons I did not wait on ebay and preordered them

Looks like I may be getting a good one...from a very reputable source...
I'm pretty bummed that HCG has neglected to respond to my inquires, both through thier website AND thier Ebay account.
I'm willing to bet they are up to thier eyeballs in problems right now, but luckily there are other options out there...
