Last Starfighter video game project - COMPLETED

I am not sure why they came out dark. The image on my laptop was, if anything, too bright. Can certainly adjust them.
I can get you some raw graphics if you like to start image files for the cabinet components-

Wow! What a great cabinet!

Looks to be in decent shape too. I bet it'll be fun to play on.

For whomever decided to tackle the image conversions, I suggest using a vector based format such as is used by Adobe Illustrator. That way the end user can size the image however they like, with no loss of quality.

Looking forward to this more and more.

Yes I planned on using adobe, both illistrator and photoshop to do the graphics. No loss of quality well pass this computer

Well the side sticker is almost done, I all ready to start the marquee and such but wanted an opinion first.

It looke like they used the lettering for the battlestar galactica font for the title and such? what do you think?

Yes, it either looks like "Stop D" or "Babylon Industrial"
which are very close to each other in style.

OK i got the font and work has begun. I have lost my high speed and am on dial up for a while so my messages will be far between.

but hopefully they should be done soon

It's been a week or so, any updates?

Doc, are the control sticks on the DVD cabinet static, or do they move? Also, I think the right hand stick is reversed 180 degrees. I know "I" couldn't push that thumb button with my pinkie.

Getting there- Been working on the targeting array- 30-45 little spheres that lock on and track objects in view. Been working with the new models from Miniaturizer Ray as well (beautiful).

The controls are freely spinning right now and simply anchored in rubber grommets. The buttons for that matter are simply springy due to tissue in the insets. Will definitely need to machine replacements that can be anchored to joystick assemblies-

So you are planning on modding your cabinet, or are you thinking of building another just like it to make all the mods to?

Thanks for the updates.

Rook

Actually will probably VERY carefully replace the controls there with functional ones. This should be possible without any external modification to the cabinet. The same is true of the Starfighter logos on the sides which are printed on stock white paper and lightly gummed to the cab. Will hang on to the originals but definitely will get laminated prints for the sides.

Free Post!

Oh wait, we're not supposed to do that... er, saving-the-thread-from-falling-off-the-board post!

Any updates anyone?

Still working on targeting and integrating new models. The stuff Miniaturizer Ray did is simply fantastic but I cannot get the software to the look the models are capable of. Rendered, the stuff he did is spot on but the software cannot do it justice (actually, it's me or the software or both that are failing). Still waiting on the cabinet blueprints and further footage and lines. Definitely getting there and definitely not abandoned. I am not a programmer by profession so roadblocks for me are plentiful.

UPDATE on Graphics

Still working on gettign the graphics done, got a good start on the hardest part, the side logo, here is a sample of what I have so far, needs some tweaking for sure, but like all of you, working a 9-5 job plus other contests and such that im involved in right now time is limited, but hope to have more soon.

Thanks for the updates Guys. I know you (hell, EVERYONE, myself included...) has a "real" job that takes prescedence over "fun" projects. I'd help out if I could (In other ways than offering words of encouragement) but I can't program my way out of a wet paper bag. And my graphics skills are limited to simple photo editing.

Well, if nothing else I'll be the official LSF cheerleader.

I did a few minor updates to my LSF Film & Videogame FAQ a little while ago. Nothing major, just little things here and there.

Cheers!

Coming along- Oh yes, coming along. For what it's worth, got a decent targeting beacon (the little dots that hone in on targets) working and reworked the lasers (still deciding). No frame rate plunge as yet!!!! Will post new pictures soon.

Will also put an updated Space Paranoids on the website for those interested(www.roguesynapse.com). The software now saves game setiings from play to play (as would an actual cab). Removed the graphics reset/wash as this was causing unexpected terminations on some computers, and updated the explosions so you get a nice concentric ring pattern with each explosion (use to bury within the model and couldn't fix it for the life of me- One darn extra line of code!!!).

Take that homelife and real job!
