Ladies can be Iron Man too (everything but the shoulders, pg 35)

Hi laam

I just read through this whole thread (yep all of it :behave) and wanted to say how awesome your costume builds are, not to mention the humerus vids. Really cool stuff, and I'm waiting in anticipation to see how your ironman will turn out, it's looking killer so far :thumbsup

You want tunes for your vids, PM me as I make em in all flavours :)

Re: Ladies can be Iron Man too (kinda pic heavy)

I'm working on a female chest/backplate if you are interested.

I like it! Do you have a pep file of this? And would you be willing to share it? It's exactly what I was looking for. Would only take some modification to make it a Mark VII instead of VI.

(Sorry if I'm dredging up an old post, but ever since the new Avengers movie I've been doing a lot of research and trying to develop a gender bent Iron Man suit for myself. OP here has had the best looking WIP post so far)

Re: Ladies can be Iron Man too (partial suit up page 34!)

Hey Laam, in this picture, it looks like you modified the silhouette to get a more curved hip/cod area than the guys' armour. How did you do that?

I think that may just be the result of the foam not being on a person. Take a look at the previous picture Laam posted, showing a partial suit up:

Got a lot of it put together with Chicago screws and Velcro last night!

In that it doesn't look as tapered to my eye. That said, this suit is VERY well proportioned for her...maybe you're just too used to seeing some of the boxier builder out there.

That picture is without the cod piece though. The pic without her wearing it has the cod piece. It seems to have a curve to fit her hips, which I would think is kind of inevitable/necessary just due to body shape.

I'm in the planning stages of an IM suit (would like to try the Mk VII), and I'm a girl too, with obvious curves in the hips. Just worried the guys' pep won't fit right because guys generally have more tapered waist/hips than girls. I wasn't going to include the abs/waist part of the suit, but if I can get it to fit right, I'd definitely do it.

Can't wait to see the finished project! This is really great Foam work! I love the idea of people doing a double-take when they realize there is a woman in the suit.

::EDIT Jan 1, 2012:: new year, brand new helmet!

You guessed it, MORE Iron Man clogging up the forums :] I'm more a sewing person so this has been a completely new experience but a very fun one so far! I hope that by posting here it'll motivate me to finish this up..sorry for what seems like pics of the same thing over and over :wacko

First I made a mock-up version of the sharkhead/dungbeetle pepakura file in 60 lb cards stock to see if it would fit and to get a little practice in
pep1-1.jpg

pep2.jpg

and then pepped the real deal with 110 lb cardstock
pep3.jpg

Yesterday I resined it...were two coats enough? It doesn't look as -yellow- as the other ones I've seen. Is that bad?
pep4.jpg

and today i'm fiberglassing the inside. So far it's been the most difficult step...I can't seem to get it to lay against the inside as flushly as I would like.
But I did discover that if the resin soaks through your gloves you become spiderman for a few hours and stick to EVERYTHING.

more to come!!
Nice! Its nice to see females doing work like this!

Very exciting, this is coming out so nicely. Totally dig the form fitting curves and the fact that it's not huge and bulky. Sexy meets strong-pretty awesome. So are you ditching the previous helmet and doing another pep? Keep at it!!:thumbsup This has been a fun build to follow.:)

I'll just leave this here for now...

Looks awesome

Any of the modelling guys wanna throw out some foamy peps for it?

Seriously. Why is it so hard to grasp this concept? Laam isn't doing a female version of the armor. She is doing Iron Man.

But but, she's a girl. How can a girl make a costume without boobs on it? Isn't that against all costuming rules? I mean isn't it written somewhere that ALL female costumes must have a large amount of cleavage? :lol
