Ladies can be Iron Man too (everything but the shoulders, pg 35)

Re: Ladies can be Iron Man too (new pics page 18!!)

You could use a hardened punch, or a scribe, or maybe one of those pointy things dentist use.

We use several types of pointy things, so you need to be a bit more specific.

If i were to pick a dental tool for doing line details id use a small cleiod discoid, or a universal scaler.

While I'm asking...

I've been out of this for a while so I've sort of lost my momentum. Going to have to re-pep all the other parts I did earlier because they warped, etc. I'm really wondering if pep is the best way to go or not; curved surfaces are easy as pie but the corners and flat surfaces are giving me weird amounts of trouble. Is it worth looking into other methods or should I just keep on keepin' on? I've seen the foam builds and the clay sculpts but never looked into them too extensively.

Hey Laam,

FWIW, you might want to go with Dancin' Fool's files. He's in the process of finishing up the parts he hasn't made yet, and plans to refine some of the ones he did (meaning you have some waffle time).

What's really cool about DF's files is that there's a lot of detail, no one has yet made a complete DF armor ('cause it's not completely available yet - and yes, this is the one I'll be working on), and the pieces themselves have options on how to construct: the new abs will be able to be made as a single unit, or in sections.

This is a great tip, thank you!! My memory is extremely fuzzy but I think I have some of his files? They're ages old though. Sounds awesome <3

Re: Ladies can be Iron Man too (new pics page 18!!)

I know you've used a mouse/orbital sander before, Laam, but have you tried using a simple aluminum sanding block? I've found that I have an easier time using a sanding block sometimes, especially if I'm just trying to make a flat section.

Sometimes low tech can work too. Just try everything and see what works for you.

You might want to subscribe to DF's new thread: http://www.therpf.com/f24/dancinfools-iron-man-mk-iii-pep-file-development-101543/. You can get all existng files from here, as well as updates.

Since I'm going to be doing the same build, I've half a mind to "challenge" you - but I think that would be counter-productive for both of us. Instead, I offer to share info - if nothing else, we may help the other prevent a time-consuming mistake.

I don't plan to start building in earnest until DF releases his final files (whenever that may be). Instead, I'm going to work on getting my helmet (I cheated; bought a lid from Finhead) outfitted with electronics. I'll probably start with the neck pep after that.

Okey, I know I'm late.... I'm trying to get to as many threads as I can, been reading L.C.B.I.M.T. ...... And I would have to say,..... where to start? well how about YES keep pepping! Yeah, you could go out and buy what you need, but by building it your self you will appreciate it way more.

NEXT.....

Captain america costume.... LOVE IT !
NEXT.....

No the video on CNN and on G4 you looked great, nothing to be scared of.
NEXT.....

oh yeah, Captain america shield..... yeah missed that....... :unsure

note:
Just a reminder if you need the files there is only one man to talk to ( sorry everyone else ) ROBO3687,..... Yeah he's a legend.... he just lol at that....

So with that in mind, I will try to stop in from time to time...... Keep up the great work. Hopefully I can get my butt in gear and get my build going again...... :unsure T.T.F.N.

This is really good work! I know your having trouble with the pep, take a look at this guy's video's he's amazing! check these out

Re: Ladies can be Iron Man too (new pics page 18!!)

That guy's videos are great, right up until the part where he tells everyone that Smooth-On resin is non-toxic and safe to mix without a respirator.

He is wrong.

I even asked him nicely if he'd make a correction, and he went off on me like a 5-year-old having a tantrum. He even pulled the "If you think you can do better, make your own ****ing video!" line. I'm pretty unimpressed with him as a human being in general.

Re: Ladies can be Iron Man too (new pics page 18!!)

Well regardless he's not using smoothon he's using a resin bondo mix that works really well. And does show proper use of saftey equipment for that. I'm kinda surprised because any interactions I've had with him have been really pleasant and helpfull.

Re: Ladies can be Iron Man too (new pics page 18!!)

It's in one of his Rondo videos, I forget which one. It's too bad too, because I *want* to like him. He seems to have a good sense of humor, and he's obviously talented...but he was an awful ******* to me. :lol

At any rate, sorry...carry on. I'm likely very much in the minority with my opinion and I don't want to derail Laam's thread with my complaining :)

Re: Ladies can be Iron Man too (new pics page 18!!)

Back on the workbench again.
I'm still having trouble with the detail lines, any tips?

Re: Ladies can be Iron Man too (new pics page 18!!)

Slow progress lately, sorry :( decided to take the ear pucks out and start from scratch on them though.

Re: Ladies can be Iron Man too (new pics page 18!!)

Hey laam ... I came across your youtube video and was kinda bummed there was no shield or Iron man bucket shown in the video ... I have been following your thread and think you are doing great so far ... gotta tell ya though there was about three seconds of uneasy awkwardness when I came across your youtube video as things went from text in a thread window to a living breathing face talking to the rest of us out there and you get to see and hear the person rather then read the words ... but it was fun and entertaining to watch so hope to see more from you ... and at least your willing to admit your a stalker ... first step to getting better lol

Re: Ladies can be Iron Man too (new pics page 18!!)
