this is the factory's amazing dye machine (not dying our yarn right now):

this runs the yarn through the dye vat for several hours boiling away getting the color just right

here is our fabric being woven on the Autoloom:

so after that the fabric is cut into 50 meter reels (12 of them to make the 600 meter order)

after that the fabric is in a holding position to be scoured and washed
it will then be dryed and stretched out to avoid large shrinkages and flatten the fabric again:

some of this fabric will be sent to have the resin coating applied to really get the last step !!

a "small" pile of our fabric:

the final step before it goes out every single inch is inspected for defects and repaired or rejected !!

i will absolutely be making more runs but right now i have to finalise this one before i can even consider another haha it's crazy on the organisation side and i dont want to drop the ball !!

I know that I am very late to this thread, but just thought that I would share the progress made on my Kylo costume. There is still much work to be done, but here is what I have completed so far: I have finished the pleating for both midcoat sleeves, but have not cut/stitched them since I am still working on the pattern for the torso of the midcoat. The picture of the completed sleeve was a test run for that fabric (the pleats are spaced out too much, so I am happy that I am redoing it anyway XD ) The overcoat material I am using is the closest I could find (it was on clearance for only $3 per yard! Unfortunately there was barely any left :p ) It is too light of a color I know, but I will dye it once I finish adjusting/tapering it and add the hood. 20150904_185214.jpg20150904_180048.jpg

I am also sorry that the pictures are sideways, I do not know how to fix that. Here are some more though while I am at it. May I also add that the current "belt" is of course make shift XD and that the hoodie is just a place holder as well until I complete the midcoat20150904_185157.jpg20150827_181606.jpg

thank you all for the kind words !! it's been a journey for sure !!

probably the most challenging costume undertaking I've ever made haha .. sure lets order 1/4 of a tonne in fabric ^^

i was just curious being completely new to all this, how many yards is required for a kylo costume?

Saw this costume on Ebay from Costumebase and decided to take the plunge. Not bad for the price of $179. Going to have it altered but it'll do. :)
