Krang Android Suit - TMNT 1987 (PIC HEAVY)

From my experience you can pretty much rotocast most resins if you work several small batches. I've slush cast Smooth on 300 and onyx several times will good results. Check out a lot of helmet casting videos to see what I'm talking about.

Also, a lot of people avoid 65d due to it getting deformed easily in mild heat situations like direct sunlight or in hot trucks during transit through the mail.

Interesting info. I've spent the last couple of months watching molding and casting videos. I have seen many others use different brands and types of resin.

This is my first time doing anthing like this. I spoke with Steven K Smith from SKS Props and Mynock from Mynock's den and both exclusively use Smooth Cast 65d. While at Seattle Pottery supply I called Smooth On tech support and spoke with a rep named Aaron because they did have 300 on the shelf and I was going to grab some instead. He said that Smooth cast 65d was specifically designed for rotocasting and that he wouldnt recommend using any thing else for my first casting. He confirmed that it could definately be done with 300, but advised against it due to my lack of experience. He said that Smooth Cast 65d was more forgiving because it didnt cure as fast as 300, therefore a better resin for beginners. After I get this one under my belt, I will definately try other products. I am just so nervous about a making a catastrophic mistake and wasting the hundreds of dollars I have invested so far into just the head piece of this costume.

As I said guys. I'm completely ignorant and am only regurgetating what I've been told. All of you that have done this before know much more than I. ;)

HAHAHA Finally. The last pieces of the puzzle. I cant wait for this work week to be over. Thi-vex and Plastipaste arrived! Now, all I need is the weekend to get here!

Nice! Glad you got all your Smooth-On stuff! I've been playing around with 4 different Smooth-On silicones all week trying to figure out which one is going to work best for my TMNT mold and cast. Feverishly working on my turtle in an effort to take on Krang at ECCC.

Awesome! I look forward to seeing you there!!! :D

I love this build! Now the true question is have you mastered the Krang voice to go with the suit? lol

Heck yeah! I am going to order a little PA system and wire that bad boy in! :D

But ITS GOING DOWN TONIGHT!!

Well, I'm sad to report that i have hit a road bump. I added a little bit of pigment to one of the layers of silicone and I apparently added too much because now it isnt curing. I'm going to stick it in the bathroom with a small space heater to hopefully get this thing to cure. Its been over 12 hours since I applied the last coat and it still is "wet". Will update in the morning. hopefully with good news. While that's doing its thing, it gave me a chance to work on my Mandalorian project. Look on the bright side, I guess.

If you have a heat gun you can use that too. I've used a heat gun to speed up the set time of silicone before and it worked like a charm. Fingers crossed that your mold sets.

Well, I put the sticky mess in the bathroom last night with a space heater. It was close to 100 degrees F in there. It's better than it was, but still not set up enough to add another coat. My work week is back so, it will have the next 4 days to set up. I hope it's good to go by then. If not, lesson learned I guess. Scrape off all that mess and hope I don't mess up the clay sculpture. Learning learning learning.
