Kit of the USS Daedalus NCC-129?

I really like the bussard effect. I think it SHOULD look more raw and dangerous than the more "refined" version that the Enterprise had later on. More like "new" technology

Seriously. The video makes it look like *something* is going on inside there, and you don't want to have a maintenence crew anywhere near it at the time.

Great video, and I suspect a definite improvement.

Today I preened and cleaned. Touch paint added paint. I did them both a bit different. One to Doug’s taste and one to mine. He picked USS Daedalus and mine Essex.

Bases are done and poles glued in. As you can see Doug’s sits well on the CG on a single pole with no issues. Solid as a rock.

Tomorrow the decals should be here and on they go ending these two builds.

Here's the trick I used for the black lines. A marker and some Tamyia tape. Looks painted on but it was so easy to adjust and get straight without screwing the paint job up with markers or paint pens.

That's really looking good.

I assume you've decided to leave off the spires on the front of the nacelles since you're lighting them?

Awesome Steve! Now lets see you do a flyby video of it in space, as if it was being used on screen!

I wish I had been thinking about those black lines. I could have included narrow strips in with the window masks.

LMK if you'd like to include those in the kits

Steve,

This is an amazing thread. I'm just getting into scratch building myself (mostly Civil War 1/96th scale ships, though) and your tutorial on making molds and casting is invaluable. I'm not really a Trek fan, but I do love the retro look of this ship. I'm darn tempted to buy one of the kits just because of the quality and coolness factor!

Thanks,

-Devin

Hi Steve been lurking & salivating! Could you explain the tape & marker trick a bit - I'm not clear on exactly what you did to get such nice lines on a sphere?

Thanks Devin. That's nice of you to say. One of my things is WW2.

Sapper,

Just take a black marker to the tape for color. Put the tape down on a clean flat surface like styrene or glass and using a straight edge and an exacto knife cut it to the thickness you want and lay it on the model. Not straight? Lift nit up and adjust it until it is.

Steve

Love the tape and marker trick. A simple and elegant solution! My only concern would be the ink running if you sprayed it with a clearcoat.
