Kathleen Kennedy is stepping down

Well I guess this is an appropriate time for this...

This is what I meant about KK not going quietly. Her retirement seems like a done deal but she's still talking to the press in combat mode.

This whole thing with her has gotten so much worse than it needed to be.

She could have just bowed out with dignity a couple years ago (when the writing was already on the wall). If she had, I'm sure Disney would have leaned on the press to give her a glowing treatment on the way out. There might not have been a South Park episode about her. Etc.

Instead, we've had this several-year period where she couldn't get anything greenlit and it has kept SW stalled out. She kept making BS movie announcements and doing more damage to her own legacy. Now she may get a press-roasting because Bob Iger is having to drag her out kicking and screaming.

Yes, this is a non-denial about leaving Lucasfilm.
Exactly. "I will never retire from movies" only means that she wants to still work in movies but knows that it may not be within Lucasfilm. She doesn't have to call it a retirement if she doesn't want to. Call it "moving on to different challenges" or whatever.

"We have every intention of making an announcement months or a year down the road" essentially ties in with what you had said about Kennedy parting ways with Lucasfilm by the end of the year - even if she doesn't want it to be called a retirement.

Two reasons:

1. Her contract has expired.

2. They have enough on her now to destroy her career as well. Mutually assured destruction. You expose me, I expose you, so how about you go away quietly?

I've got a bad feeling about this.
She has been there for 40 years... hard to believe.

if she doesn't get to graciously leave on her "own terms", she will get a lawyer. That's the way things work nowadays.

Yeah, how did that work out for Rick McCallum, the SW prequel producer?
Have you heard of him AT ALL since "leaving" Lucasfilm in 2012? When Disney acquired LFL, Rick moved to Prague in Czechia to work.

We''ll see where Kennedy ends up.

I sometimes wonder if this interview, below, illustrates how she may have been treated / regarded by George and Steven…if so, what a motivator being the recipient of “back-handed insults” can be and may explain all of the heroic “self-insert characters” that have defined the Kennedy-era films, alongside the destruction of classic characters that George and Steven created:

Whatever her motives are, it's on her.

If she got hired to be an assistant then her job was to be a good note-taker, not interrupt the bosses with unsolicited ideas. That's not a gendered issue. If they wanted her opinion then you can bet they would have asked for it. If she was offering sharp observations then you can bet they would have started consulting her more.

IMO Lucas & Speilberg were not the types to ignore valid input just because of somebody's job title. Hyper-creative types like them are usually open-minded to a fault.

By the time Kennedy took over LFL in 2013 it was decades later. She was married to producer Frank Marshall. She had producing credits of her own. By that stage Lucas trusted her enough to put her in charge of managing his life's work, which is a pretty gigantic compliment.

I think she does this stuff just to mess with everyone

Even if she leaves, even if they erased everything.. most of the original crew is gone.. do we really want more?

No ones ever really gone....
I am picturing the philosophers from Hitchhiker's Guide and how they had so long to continue philosophizing while the program ran. I have said sooooooo many times that the truly intent destroyers will always resist retribution by claiming they are leaving/retiring/moving away/ quitting/dying/etcetera. Biggest tool in the ol' liar's toolbox. Makes it seem like tossing them out would not be worth the effort "since they are leaving anyway". Farce, just banking some unhindered time to come up with a plan to stay in charge.

Eventually she will die of old age and be replaced with a custom AI trained off her, so in theory she will never be gone...
