This doesn't change what was and will probably have very little effect on what will be. Even The Mandalorian sputtered out. The brand is dead.

I have higher hopes. My understanding from multiple accounts is that The Mandalorian sputtered out due to Kathleen's and Rodriguez's antics making The Book of Boba Fett, and Favreau was forced to gut his preferred Mando Season 3 in order to salvage it.

I think a fairer representation of what Favreau wants to do these days can be seen in Skeleton Crew.

IMO Favreau seems capable of bringing the franchise back to decent watchable condition.

But they have to give him enough time & resources to do it. It's gonna take years to turn the brand's reputation around even if he does everything right. The audience has been mostly getting burned for a decade and the most beloved old cast (the OT) is not coming back.

Mike Zeroh is reporting that she's still in charge.

Zeroh is the biggest of the Disney shills and is in Kennedy's back pocket. She hasn't made a business decision in over a year.

That being said, of course on paper she is still in charge. No one is saying she's not, technically. Articles are talking about her impending departure, which hasn't happened yet.

If Favreau still has the energy, it'll be him. He's been in actual charge for more than a year now.

I seriously hope it's Favreau. Nobody would deny Filoni has done some great stuff in the past but he was also partly to blame for disasters like The Acolyte. I fear he has the same mindset and vision as Kathleen Kennedy. Obviously I don't know, but from what I've seen it seems like Favreau is the only high-up figure at Lucasfilm who has consistently produced things that really felt like Star Wars. Things that audiences unanimously enjoyed.

Oh I don't know what Mike is saying. I just meant it as a joke since he's always wrong about everything lol.

Filoni's vision is slightly different from Favreau's. You can see it in the Ahsoka show. Filoni is deeply in love with his characters and his vision for Star Wars and what he thinks George would have wanted (George okay'ed "Mortis" and so much new Clone Wars lore), and Favreau has gently reigned him in a few times, but not for Ahsoka; that was Filoni's to do with as he pleased. For the upcoming The Mandalorian and Grogu movie, a little bird told my little bird, who told me that Favreau has explained to Filoni that he's gonna have to let go of some of his characters.

Additionally, Filoni has rolled over for Kennedy spectacularly a few times. But I don't blame him much for The Acolyte: that was allegedly Kennedy acting on her own, doing business out of the country, without approval from Chapek or Iger, to secure some outside investment, to empower her pal Leslye Headland to rewrite Star Wars lore and make it their own. Kennedy is desperate for a legacy "of a certain type." By the time Iger got wind, it was too late not to release it due to contracts. Allegedly, Favreau was overheard saying that watching The Acolyte was like watching a bad Star Wars fan film.

Okay, got some extra info about what's going on inside. Feel free to be skeptical; I am not. :)

Apparently, back in October, Iger told Kennedy that her contract wouldn't be renewed. She was given the choice to retire gracefully or he would tell the trades that she'd been removed. She chose to retire. Which is why we've seen some strange "lifetime achievement awards" and other pats on the back for her in recent months.

The reason the retirement wasn't announced back in October was because Disney was apparently concerned about what this news COMBINED with the election results would do to their stock price.

So now Iger apparently feels that with the White House's agenda in place, he can take her down without industry repercussions. Iger still has presidential aspirations of his own, so this syncs nicely for him, what with the pressure to reduce DEI measures and all.

So Iger had Favreau "leak" the retirement news this week.

I hear that the Lucasfilm office is strangely numb and quiet today, except to internally refer to Kennedy as "the Disney villain in human form" finally defeated. The remaining fear inside Lucasfilm is that fans have been burned too many times that they won't come back. So it's time to vote with our wallets and viewing numbers. We should reward the good and punish the bad.

(I'm just reporting what I believe to be facts above; I am not taking a political stance, so please don't jump on that bandwagon. I'm not inviting a discussion about White House policies or DEI.)

And if you haven't yet, please give Skeleton Crew a chance!

Bill
