Why wouldn't discussion and research take place in the appropriate prop forum and the interest/run take place in the runs forum?

I am not sure I follow in regard to temporarily removing an item. The way the system works now is that an item is removed 45 days after it is marked as sold. Why so long? A seller has 15 days to ship and we assume an item can get to just about anywhere in the world in three weeks, so if there is any question about the item when the buyer receives it, the thread still exists.

Can you give some examples of what you are thinking of in terms of marking an item as being on hold?

I have to put a lot of props "On Hold" for members to save up money, wait for pay checks. etc. Many members have done it for me and I for them. It's how a lot of my props get sold. Lot's of unneeded PMs can be done away with. Even the Premium Member PM box gets full fast.

The other thing was the inability to remove a listing. For example yesterday I listed a Clonetrooper helmet. Only after I listed it I noticed two small flaws so I needed to pull the listing until I can figure out what to do. I don't like marking it sold as that's not what actually happened and someone might wonder why it's back up if it was sold, confusion, etc.

I just think a "Remove" and an "On Hold" marking option would be nice and cut down on unnecessary PMs, confusion, etc.

It is certainly something we can consider once we have a number of other existing functionality concerns addressed.

I tried this in the past but you (or any member) can not mention estimated prices, expected size of the run. etc.

Nothing can be mentioned in the research thread except research.

For instance, I could not post that a part could be made in Aluminum for $3.50 or Brass for $6.80 which is important to the discussion. One part isn’t allowed in the Props forum and the other part apparently isn’t in the Runs forum

One of the main driving factors of an AP is that every facet of the project is discussed

Starting a discussion thread in one forum and a interest thread in the other forum and then a run thread in the other forum is not conducive to a successful project

The fact that my ROTJ project has around 40 members proves that consolidation works, now if it could have been in the main forum we probably would have had numbers in the 60-90 range like my old Active Projects had

I have 3 projects/runs that were moved back to the deprecated Junkyard.

Why did this happen are they in danger of disappearing?

Because you are not a Premium Member. And yes, they will be gone in 60 days unless you upgrade.

I also noticed that the Project Run Forum guidelines state that "This forum is NOT intended for research or ongoing discussion."

So where do you post Active Projects?

Active Projects, as defined as multiple people building a similar item, can be posted in the main Props forum. You simply cannot promote sales there.

I also have a question about format.

Is it possible to have the “List / Galley” option that ebay uses

IMO the Galley format ( the way it is now) feels very crammed and confusing where as the list format seems more logical and in my case it is easier to follow.

You have a picture to the right , a Title that can be larger and on a single and a line of text for additional info below that.
A forum I use named Glock Talk does this and is seems to be easier to follow.

Gun Parts & Accessories - Glock Talk Classifieds

This seems easier to follow to you? It looks VERY clunky and poorly designed to me, but I suppose we all have our preferences. We are currently looking into the ability to switch between thumbnail and list views, but it is pretty low on the list at the moment.

Well, since the ROTJ Project has no possibility of wrapping up in 60 days I guess I'll have to ask the members to foot the bill for my membership

You also failed to address why you can not post research or have on going discussions in the Project Runs Forum? Who will that bother?

I guess you want me to implement the "Gavidoc" Protocol

That was created when web server space was a premium so I was asked to create a discussion thread in the Props forum and a for sale thread in the junk yard.

Made total sense then and make even more sense now.

There is no way to prevent people from discussing prices in the main forum and since I can't post a link to the Project Run thread in the main forum how will I direct them to that thread.

As for LIST views verses GALLERY view, you be the judge

Here is my opinion

The Way I would do it

Good

Okay....

Are you kidding me

Considering the money you have made off this community, that seems a bit pathetic that you are going to ask for a hand-out.

As long as you are willing to lose all the information that is posted in the Project Runs forum and your only interest is making money off its members instead of posting in a place where your content will last, sure, post the research and discussion in the Project Runs forum...

Actually, let me revise my statement in my last post. You will NOT use this community to pan-handle and ask for others to pay for your Premium Membership so you can then continue to extract money from them through your runs. If we find that you did it publicly or privately, you will be gone.

First of all you have zero idea of the money I make from this hobby, in fact you are wrong, in most of my projects I make very litte

I also just spent over $500 to host a contest and I am a veteran member so don't try to ack like I am some kind of parasite, feeding off the members of this forum.

So now you can dictate how members can cover their expenses?

PayPal fess, ebays fees, credit card fees and now forum fees are all part of the cost of selling stuff and have to be covered by someone. If I have to increase the prices of the parts I offer to cover my fees how is that not acceptable?

That woud be like telling a seller that can not charge for shipping.

BTW: I find your tone very insulting, but I guess it's oay to treat a 14 year veteran of this forum with a complet lack of respect when you have the power to ban them at will.

Given that I recall you boasting about paying for part of your house, or maybe it was the land for your house from blaster sales (pre-Master Replicas), yeah... let's not play like you are a victim here or pretend that you have not benefited financially. You are a seller. You have always been a seller (nothing wrong with that) and as long as I can remember, you have done everything you can to skirt the rules in order to increase your sales. When you start looking for others to pay the pittance that is the Premium Membership fee so you can in turn make money off of them, yes, you are acting like a parasite.

I am not dictating how your expenses are covered, only telling you not to use this platform to pan-handle.

Sure. If you want to build your overhead costs, including the cost of Premium Membership into your sales, you are welcome to do so, just like any other business would. That is different from "ask[ing] the members to foot the bill for my membership."

YOU are incorrect.

I NEVER boasted that I paid for any part of my house with money I have made from sales on this or any forum.

Others made those assumptions and they were out right lies and now you are perpetuating them.

If anything, projects on this forum have helped reduce my taxable income because in most cases they were not profitable, I have the tax returns to prove it

Seems you have forgotten about my At Cost Runs, Bulk Tool Runs (where I negotiated lower prices for tools at places like Harbor Freight) and projects that had very low profit margins, not to mention all of the projects that put me in the red.

If I didn't make a good living working as an Aircraft Mechanic I couldn't afford to run most of these projects, unless you think making a $5 profit on each Denix Mauser I sell is going to some how pay my mortgage.

Art,

Since there are usually a few people that either:

A - cannot follow the simple instructions of “do not discuss pricing in this thread” or
B - that simply cherry pick the things that they read in a post and skip over that sentence entirely

What will the staff do when somebody does in fact discuss pricing in there post?

I wish I had a screen cap of way-back-when, but I don't bother trying to keep those kind of things. It wasn't someone else. It was your own post and I'll never forget it. You posted a number of photos of you clearing land for the house and made a comment along the lines of "paid for by blasters."

I am not here to debate your financial situation or your contributions to the community. As I said earlier, if you want to build your overhead into your pricing, you are welcome to do so. However, if you try to paint us as the reason for charging people more or directly pan-handle, well, you know where we stand.

Sadly, as much as we try to automate things, it will come down to a case by case basis. First time offenders generally get the rules explained to them. Repeat offenders will eventually be shown the door. It is actually a really tough situation with this and a number of similar issues in which we have to grapple between keeping a discussion useful and helpful and limiting people from abusing the ability to advertise. I wish there was an easier way to handle it, but we haven't found one yet.

I have to say I'm really not liking these new changes to the classified section of the forum. From the thumbnail view of the new junkyard to the separation of the junkyard into multiple sections it all seems detrimental to the overall usability of the forum. Instead of checking one place for whats on sale, project runs and want to buys you have to enter each section. Why? I think it ruins the user experience.

I wish you had a screen cap too because that is a completely false statement.

I did post info about my house construction but I never said it was paid for by blasters.

I would think mods would be above personal attacks and character assassination but apparently they are not.

Thankfully, we are above such things. You aren't being attacked, nor is your character being assassinated. I am simply responding to your complaints and statements.

The forums had to be separated due to the new layout of the Junkyard. While everyone will certainly have their own opinion of the new layout, it is a very popular sales setup at the moment that can be seen across a variety of platforms.

I am sorry you feel that it ruins your experience.

You have inferred that I am a parasite, "feeding off the member of this forum", that I intended to "pan handle" for the fees and that I lied about where the money came from to build our house.

It cost use $260k to build our house and 14 years later we still owe $245K so PLEASE tell me how blaster money paid for it??????

I actually found the file that I used to create the thread you speak of, the last time it was edited was June of 2004

I would post it but I'm sure you would just claim that I edited the info.
