Yes, as long as you proceed with the understanding that when the run ends, that information is going to be lost.

Why would it be lost??

Do those threads have a time limit?

BTW: I archive a lot of the threads I post to this and other forums. Digital storage is cheap so it's no big deal. It has been very "helpful" in the past.

David, I've no bone here, but I think there's been a miscommunication somewhere. Forgetting the rest of the banter which does not concern or interest me, I will only point out one part, because it seems to be a matter of form rather than substance.

"Forgetting the rest of the banter which does not concern or interest me"

So you choose to opine on the semantics of my comments but not the inappropriate comments of Art?

I think in the interest of full disclosure it would be appropriate to explain your involvement in this situation.

Are you part of the development team or a beta tester?

David, you are continuing to derail and making the situation worse now by trying to create some sort of conspiracy. Move along.

I can't believe people freak out so much over $36 a year, my wife spends that weekly on "keep me young cream"...

Ignore the haters Art

We can revisit this, but the reasoning for it it this:

The purpose of this update is to make transactions on the RPF better for both buyers and sellers. A LOT of what we have done directly benefits the buyer, but we also have a few things that directly benefit the seller. This rule is one of them. Why do you have it? Because you, as a potential buyer already know if the seller is willing to take a lower offer or is willing to trade. Those elements are all built into the form the seller fills our when making their listing. If they are willing to take lower offers, they will check a box that says they will take lower offers and/or trade. In the past we have seen sellers be hassled by continual offers when they were unwilling to accept OBOs, so much like other info, we have added it to the listing and you know up front whether they will or not.
This is a bit of double edged sword... let's say I post a classified and I think it's worth $X and I opt to not check that box. But, after a period of time has past... nothing happens. So, now I've rethought this and will accept a lower amount. Is that editable?

If someone makes me an offer even though I didn't check that box, does that violate anything?

I'd rather someone just post a price and add "firm" to it to know that they're not going to budge. By adding the checkbox and the wording mentioned here... well, setting a price is almost worthless (except it does add a starting price for negotiation).

Point taken. As I mentioned, we are going to hash this out again to see if it needs to change or not.

Reactions: JD

I'm not tying to create some sort of conspiracy, if Alan is part of the development team or a beta tester I will direct my comments toward him since he doesn't seem to be taking this personally.

If he is just a member like myself I will continue to address my comments to you.

I don't know why you are reading so much into my posts.

I reference to the "check a box that says they will take lower offers and/or trade".

I agree with JD. I might list something and be firm on the price and it might not sell, then after a few weeks I might be receptive to a lower offer.
or an acquaintance might want to contact me an ask me if I can give him a better deal (this just happened to me and I did)

I also have contacted people that have posted that they are firm on the price and when they get my lower offer via PM they accept it.

Is there a way to make threads "slide" to the bottom of the list. For instance, once something is sold could it slide to the bottom 24 hours later?

I will just say... GREAT WORK GUYS!! ;)

It looks great and while it will take some getting used to, it is a much needed change and I think it will be awesome!

I can't wait to redo some of my old threads and start my new listing.

Kinda don't understand why this post was edited:

Seems counterproductive to remove information from the thread?
The only information that was removed was a Junkyard link. No links to Junkyard threads has been the rule for a number of years, even before Art took over. Since Junkyard threads are removed when they are finished, the threads would just end up with broken links.

Now that we are revamping the entire Junkyard, splitting out project runs and such, we are revisiting the previous rules and seeing what fits and what doesn't. Coincidentally, we were just discussing that very rule today.

I don't see the point of comments such as 'I don't know why people are freaking out over the cost'.
Being able to pay for a month's use is likely how I would pay to advertise on the forum, but please, have the decency to not tell others what they can or cannot afford.

PS. Being able to see the images rather than scroll through text is a welcome change.

I agree with JD and Alan, it seems somewhat backwards to most any classifieds section that you need to check a box saying you will accept lower offers. Much more of a common practice for seller's to add "Firm" in their listing if they don't want to negiotate on price.

Just putting that out there for consideration.

Art, will there be a prop and non-prop filter or designation as the junkyard starts to fill out?

Page 2 on the new junkyard doesn't work for me. When I click on it, it just loads page 1 again???

Try clearing your browsers cookies and cache, restart your browser, log in... see if that fixes it.

Not sure if it was mentioned, but I know people were commenting on the fact that PayPal is being used...

I've also noticed that there is a 'returns accepted' section of each listing. If you use PayPal, you accept returns, you have no choice. A buyer can simply state it wasn't what they wanted (or make up any 'not as described' excuse), return the item with tracking, and PayPal will refund their money. This is the same issue eBay sellers have. You can't just say 'I don't accept returns', you (the seller) have no way to stop it.

Seems pointless to have that as part of the listings, at least until something other than PayPal/Credit Cards is allowed for payment... (All credit card transactions give this security to the buyer (which is why PayPal does this). Anything purchased on a credit card can be returned to the seller for a refund. As a seller accepting credit cards, either directly or through PP, you agree to this.)

Just throwing that out there... :) It can still work on an honor system if the buyer chooses, but it can't be enforced (although the RPFs user ratings could reflect a buyer doing that, but that seems like it would be unfair as the reason for using PayPal is to offer this kind of protection as long as it's not being abused).
