Josh's Captain America Shield

Re: Update!

I have the same blank shield and I am looking for the star for the next step in this keepsake I am making for his Captain America themed room. Can you tell me how to contact "Valor" to see if he can make one for my shield? Also, do you know who could paint the shield. I am with you, I almost hate to paint it. Thanks

I think an auto body shop should be able to paint it for you. In my case I painted the shield myself. The only thing I didn't do regarding paint and such was the clear coat. I'm sure if you go online and search for custom paint shops in your area you shouldn't have any trouble finding someone to paint it for you.

Also, Steve a.k.a. Valor, is great guy to work with and his work is top notch!

And here's everything put together and completely finished. The catalyzed clear coat is pretty damn good and I suggest anyone doing this project to go that route.

I brought the shield with me to the Avengers movie and a whole ton of people took pictures and thought it was pretty awesome. Everyone came up to hit it and asked if it was one solid piece or how I made it. I even got a money offer for it which was $1,500 but it didn't look like he had the money and I certainly wasn't going to accept a check right then and there. Besides, it's my baby and I'm not going to sell it. :cool......Unless I decide to make another one; which probably won't happen.

But anyway, a big thank you to Chris Fields and Finhead for helping me out. And an especially HUGE THANK YOU to Valor who for the last couple months has been helping me out big time and provided me with the Star and the Brackets on the back (and also dealing with my insane amount of questions). I honestly couldn't have done it without your help.

Just as a side note, I was going to design my own bracket and handle system on the back but unfortunately, life got in the way and I didn't get time to do so . I apologize to everyone who was looking forward to that and following this thread because of it. Maybe in the future I'll think of a way to make it so you can carry it on your back without compromise but I can't promise anything.

Thank you to everyone who's complimented the shield and thank you to everyone who has helped!

Nice project with a great result! You did some amazing work on this shield! :love

Btw. It´s really upright to name the people helping with your project! Way to go, mate! :thumbsup

Josh, what did you pay to have the clear sprayed? I paid a guy $75. I've had some people what a "fair" price is for doing it and I have no idea.

That is very fair price IMO.

I paid a guy in Pittsburgh to lay down the catalyzed clear coat for about $100. He laid on 3 light coats to tac it and then 3 heavy coats. So for 6 coats in total, he did a great job. Also, he only did the front side and the star. Does that help any?

Wow, looks friggin' awesome. Hoping to start my shield project soon. Many thanks in advance to those that have gone ahead to show us how it's done.

That really does look outstanding! Great work. I can't wait to start my own.

*Adds to the unending list of prop "needs". LOL*
