JAWS 50 year anniversary

When it first aired on TV, my 11 aunts and uncles and nearly 40 cousins piled into gmas to see it on cable. When the head rolls into view of the hole in the boat, my uncle yelled from the back of the room. Several adults and 30 kids flew in all directions. Injuries were minor but my uncle got punched by several brothers throughout the remainder of the evening. Good times.
I tried to go opening weekend but all shows were sold out!
Was lucky to get in the next weekend , in the theatre when that head came out 2 huge ladies in front of us threw their huge buckets of popcorn in the air they jumped so hard!
You had to live in those times to really know the impact that film had, hell people were afraid to go in a frickin POOL!!!

That was a proposed opening scene for the parody sequel that didn't happen ("National Lampoon's Jaws 3, People 0").
The idea was to have Peter Benchley (the author of the novel) relaxing in his backyard pool and getting attacked by a shark.
this film was so impacting on life in general that it seemed impossible to see a film or tv show or even go to a public event where it wasn't at least referenced. The dun dun dun dun dun dun could be heard daily by people just having normal conversations. Every kid who ever watched it made this noise while in the water. It was EVERYWHERE. Only Darth Vader's march came close to being repeated so often.I tried to go opening weekend but all shows were sold out!

Really sucks the Schieder estate is no longer allowing his likeness to be used. NECA can't release his figure. And also due to this I'm guessing it's why Funko has released 50th versions of Quint and Hooper but no Brody. Kinda leaves the guy out of this entire thing.
Watched the movie with coffee ice cream and apricot brandy. Went to have breakfast on the Maine beach this morning. Received multiple comments on my Jaws t shirt from folks which was a lot of fun.
Couldn't make it to the Vineyard for the celebration sadly but I'm going to trying go later this year.
The movie's fans are definitely still going strong.

Represent This on YouTube does some amazing deep dives on Jaws and highlights some of Roy Schieder’s issues during production. I brought it up because it was brought up.
Channel does some great BTS stuff on some of our favorite movies, should check him out. Some of the info has been out there for a while, but I’ve learned some interesting stuff from it.
I can’t remember the first time I saw it but I saw all four of them a few dozen times before I was 10. 3 has always been a guilty pleasure and while I was never afraid of the pool, I remember having a few dreams that involved a shark, a pool, and Bess Armstrong lol. Also shared these films with my family and Hailey turned out to be a big fan of them(among many other films and franchises. We were always movie buddies/end rant).
I am definetely picking this up. And while it’s amazing to see these 40, 45, 50th anniversaries, it only makes me feel older as they come out lol.

Yeah, Jaws 2 is definitely not great but it's fine. Still has many of the same folks from the first movie and even John Williams doing the music. I"ll still watch it and not hate it but it doesn't hold a candle to Jaws. Jaws 3 and 4 on the other hand.........
JAWS 2 was decent but it could have been better.
IMO the director (Jeannot Szwarc) did a good solid job considering the situation. He was given a troubled production with impossible expectations.
If JAWS 2 had been made without the first one existing, I think J2 would have a stronger rep than it does now.
The making of J2 was another trainwreck like the first one. They didn't have shark problems but they had more human ones. Internal studio politics, firing the director, rewrites, etc.
